IFSCC CONGRESS

lab-based fabrication system of a novel Janus particle based on easily available ingredients. It is a silicate microbubble with a hydrophobic outer surface and a hydrophilic inner. The bubbles were crushed to create two faces of opposite wettability in a fine powder. Stable Pickering emulsions were formed

with many cosmetic oils up to %0% wt water content. This enabled formulation of a novel emulsifier-free Janus w/o Pickering foundation. Metastability was found for water/Janus dispersions and harnessed to create a novel Janus powder-to-cream foundation.

Podium presentation: Masayuki Iida, Kao “Novel facial rejuvenation method: rapid removal of laugh lines using special cosmetic film” This presentation began by asking viewers which woman looks younger out of two images, demonstrating how laughter lines affect how young an individual looks. A new lift-up technology was then

revealed which offers immediate and non- invasive results: a facelift liquid, which disappears laughter lines in 5 minutes, Polymer NBN. The conventional method for this type of

liquid is to fill the lines, while Polymer NBN utilises its attributes of thinness, shrinkage and flexibility to pull the skin tighter, making the lines fade away almost immediately. This polymer also provides a very natural-looking finish and a structural change inside the skin described as an opposite effect to ageing.

body malodor effectively? Development of novel fragrances using the olfactory receptor technology” Mr Hisashi Mihara (Takasago International Corporation, Japan)

Looking ahead Following the conclusion of the IFSCC Congress, the organisers revealed that over 1500 people from around the world have attended the event. Attendees have viewed 436 presentations (69 Podiums, 367 Posters) on-demand for 10 days and communicated with presenters using functions like the Q&A chat and ‘Like’ button to ensure that there was still a degree of interaction despite the virtual platform.

The opening and closing ceremonies

have also delivered the important essence of the host country, which is also a very important aspect of IFSCC Congresses, such as the Japanese Traditional Performing Art “Shakkyo” in the Opening Ceremony and the

“sanbonjime” using wooden clappers in the Closing Ceremony. The organisers of the IFSCC Congress

in Yokohama worked tremendously hard in difficult circumstances to deliver an engaging, educational and well-presented event that was held online for the very first time. The presentations were of a very high standard and maintained the spirit of scientific advancement of any previous IFSCC Congress. While it was unfortunate the event could not be held in a physical capacity, the organisers have ensured there was no detrimental impact to the educational content. The 26th IFSCC Conference is due to take

place 25-27 October in Cancun, Mexico. “Cosmetic Science that awakens the senses” is the motto of the event. Personal Care will keep readers up to date with plans for the Conference, but you can also find out more information here: https://ifscc2021.org/ PC
