New website for personal care
SGS has launched an online resource focused on the safety and efficacy testing of cosmetics and personal care products. This new resource at
www.sgs.com/ cosmeticsefficacy showcases the range of services available to manufacturers and brand owners to ensure safe and compliant skin care, hair care and sunscreen products for consumers all over the world. Global cosmetic and personal
care brands and manufacturers will have access to the services they need to ensure products are independently tested, verified and certified, as well as those which can prove that products live up to claims and perform as advertised. Pierre-Yves Dupont, VP
Cosmetics, Personal Care and Household, SGS said: “We understand the challenges faced by this fast-moving sector. Manufacturers and brands need not only to meet the requirements of an increasingly complex regulatory landscape, but also to meet the expectations of consumers. Yet, we see this as an opportunity for brands to stand out from the competition, increase brand loyalty and grow their business. A product is trusted because it’s tested.”
Acquisitions in Mexico City
IMCD N.V. has announced the acquisition of two speciality distribution companies in Mexico: Millikan and Banner Química. “It has been a very active
Biodegradable complexing agent launched
BASF Care Creations has introduced Neutrol MGDA, a highly stable, eco-friendly complexing agent (also called: chelating agent) for personal care applications. It is readily biodegradable and offers an excellent ecological and toxicological profile. Complexing agents are used
in cosmetic products to form very stable complexes with metal ions, thereby inactivating their negative influences on the final formulation. By forming water-soluble
complexes with polyvalent metal ions (e.g. iron, manganese, copper)
over a wide pH range, Neutrol MGDA binds metal ions very efficiently. Due to its high temperature stability, Neutrol MGDA can be added at any step in the manufacturing process for cosmetic products. Neutrol MGDA is suitable for
various fields of application: from shower gels and liquid soaps to shampoos, styling products, baby cleansing products, skin creams and toothpastes. It is cold processable, easy to formulate and contains no preservatives. Due to its sustainability benefits, it meets the requirements of the Nordic Ecolabel.
Record sustainability donations
Online organic cosmetic science school, Formula Botanica, donated a record £30,000 over the past year to two chosen charities working in the field of sustainability and conservation. Plantlife and TreeSisters both work internationally and combine action, research and education to fulfil their aims of protecting and regenerating the environment and promoting sustainable use of its resources. “We are proud to be part of global
networks that donate to fund the acceleration of tropical reforestation and the conservation of wild plants as an expression of collective planetary care,” said Lorraine Dallmeier, CEO of Formula Botanica. To date, the school has donated

around £60k to charities and has doubled its contributions in 2020. Formula Botanica saw student enrolments this year increase by 80 per cent and its record donations reflect this growth and offer the opportunity to support sustainability-focused charities. Plantlife and TreeSisters were
a conscious choice for Formula Botanica as a leading voice in the green beauty space. Formula Botanica, which has a cohort of some 11,000 students and graduates, trains natural organic cosmetic formulators across the world. This year, Formula Botanica
became the largest, single corporate donor to Plantlife, a UK-based conservation charity working to save
threatened wild flowers, plants and fungi. Plantlife’s work is life support for wildlife and helps sustain the colour and diversity of our natural landscapes. CEO of Plantlife Ian Dunn
said: “We are delighted to be able to share the next major step in our relationship with Formula Botanica. Great partnerships are built on shared values and Formula Botanica’s focus on teaching a global community the wonders and powers of green beauty resonates strongly with everything we do at Plantlife. “We can all be ‘Organic
Formulators’ and would struggle to do better than follow the inspiration of Formula Botanica in all walks of
life. Our members and supporters are paramount in making Plantlife’s work possible. With the support of Formula Botanica, we at Plantlife will be able to further our work in the conservation of native plants and habitats in the UK and across the globe”. Operating in a similar sphere,
TreeSisters elicits collective responsibility for planetary restoration at grass-roots level with a focus on women and tropical reforestation and restoration. As the majority of Formula Botanica’s students and graduates are women, TreeSisters’ mission of enabling a conscious shift to reinstate feminine leadership make it a double fit for the school as a charity of choice.

year for our IMCD Mexico team, and we are pleased to maintain our growth momentum with the acquisitions of Millikan and Banner Química in this important Latin American market,” said Marcus Jordan, Americas President, IMCD. “Both companies perfectly complement our existing operations in Mexico and strengthen our technical and commercial offering in a number of core market segments.” Both based in Mexico City,
Millikan and Banner Química add 60 employees to the IMCD Mexico team. This latest development is preceded by the establishment of IMCD Mexico in April 2020, which serves the pharmaceuticals, food, nutrition and personal care industries.
