.minimize the number of products they purchase, Stepan’s The Men’s Collection - Cleansing Mousse is a daily-use cleanser with coconut oil and vitamin E that can easily double as a shaving cream. This sulfate-free mousse gently removes dirt and excess oil while moisturising skin (and beard!) with natural moisturisers. This formulation also contains allantoin, which can be considered a skin protectant active ingredient (see Formulation 3).

Focus on hair According to eTurbonews, beards are growing in popularity, including Western and Eastern countries such as India.4 Stepan recognises the need for beard care, hence, have created a formulation, The Men’s Collection - Beard Oil, to soften and condition your beard, moustache or goatee with this 99% naturally derived beard oil enriched with natural oils and conditioners (see Formulation 4). This formulation features lauryl lactyl

lactate, a natural silicone alternative that provides a moisturised and hydrated feel, and disunfloweroylethyl dimonium chloride (and) sunflower seed oil glycerides (and) lauryl lactyl lactate, which is naturally derived and hypoallergenic, and provides a

conditioning and softness better than oil alone — without any buildup. This novel esterquat for hair conditioning was developed to fulfil consumers’ performance requirements and demand for readily biodegradable and lower toxicity ingredients. Esterquats are known to be readily biodegradable, mild and less toxic to aquatic life. For decades, this chemical class of cationic agents has been used as fabric softening ingredients, but many of them are animal-derived, which has become unattractive in the personal care market. And although plant-derived esterquats are available in the fabric softeners market, these products do not provide the same premium conditioning performance on hair as behentrimonium chloride (BTAC). This is because the palm oil carbon chain length is not optimal for hair conditioning. So instead, Stepan’s product

development started with sunflower seed oil, a non-GMO, plant-based raw material. Sunflower oil contains primarily C18 fatty chain moieties and has a high degree of unsaturation, which is believed to assist in coating and lubricating the hair for ease of combing. The resulting product, a sunflower

.esterquat (disunfloweroylethyl dimonium chloride (and) sunflower seed oil glycerides (and) lauryl lactyl lactate), also uses methyldiethanolamine as the tertiary amine instead of dimethyl sulfate, making it sulfate-free – another claim increasingly important to consumers. It is free of water and comprises 95% total cationic and emollient actives. This sunflower oil-based esterquat is considered Derived Natural by ISO 16128 [Standard], and has been tested for irritation potential using the Human Repeat Insult Patch Test (HRIPT) methodology and was found to be non- irritating, hypoallergenic and mild to the skin. Asian men also are known for their

straight hair and the ability to rock just about any hairstyle - whether it is a pompadour, quiff, fade, fauxhawk, side sweep or tousled mess. Stepan has developed a pomade formulation to provide a high gloss effect without a thick, greasy feel. Stiffening properties of pomades make sculptured hairstyles such as a pompadour or quiff possible. Stepan’s pomade formulation contains caprylic/capric triglyceride, which provides a velvety after-feel, hydration and deep conditioning to dry or damaged hair.
