In 2018, the International Com-


mission on Illumination issued a new standard, CIE SO26:2018, which de- fines the ways of measuring lighting in terms of HCL. The document de- scribes an indicator called “me- lenopic equivalent daylight illumi- nance” (M-EDI). Based on this value, it is possible to determine to what ex- tent a given spectral distribution of light can effectively inhibit mela- tonin secretion during the day, thus influencing human work and rest.
