East Cork Told To
Batten Down The Hatches Again
by SEAMUS WHELEHAN
With more wind and rain
set to batter the East Cork areas, families and business- es throughout the region are left counting the cost of ex-hurricane Ophelia. A low pressure system is
tracking towards the south coast bringing with it heavy rain and high winds. Met Eireann say that,
while the weather system is not an ex-hurricane, it’s likely the areas that were
most affected by Ophelia will bear the brunt of the gale force winds. Heavy rains are predict-
ed for tonight Thursday 19 October with severe gusts due to make land late Fri- day night, early Saturday morning. Cork County Council
say they are currently mon- itoring the situation and are encouraging the public to exercise caution over the coming days.

Youghal Family With Ill Toddler Struggling To Find
Accommodation
by SEAMUS WHELEHAN
A young family from
Youghal, with medical needs, who have turned down the offer of a house due to the lack of a sec- ond bathroom, say they are facing long-term homeless- ness if the Council cannot meet their needs. Aaron Kenneally and
Kellie Lewis say the family is struggling to find accom- modation which suits their specific medical needs, as the possibility of cross con- tamination would be a seri- ous issue. Aaron, who is carer
for his partner Kellie and 16-month-old son told the East Cork Journal “We are not looking for a 3 bed- room house. It’s just two separate bathing areas we need. Even if we had an en-suite” His son, Conor has as-
piration symptoms which causes anything that the toddler drinks to fill up his lungs and, as a result, he must be fed through a tube in his stomach. Kellie, 22, has been fitted with a shunt to treat excess fluid on the brain and wears a colosto- my bag following compli- cations with her bowel.
