Thursday, 19th October 2017 Dr. Harty Cup Midleton CBS 1-21 De la Salle Waterford 0-12 Midleton CBS opened
their Dr. Harty Cup campaign with an im- pressive
display against
De la Salle (Waterford) at a well-prepared Bushy Park (home to Brickey Rangers), Dungarvan. Playing against a stiff breeze in the opening half the East Cork school took the game to their opponents and were ex- celling in all quarters
of the field where Cork minor hurlers, Sean O’ Leary Hayes, Ger Miller- ick, Aaron Walsh Barry, Joe Stack and Liam O’ Shea were the main play- makers along with the in- dustrious Liam Gosnell. It was nip and tuck in
the opening ten minutes with both sides trying to show their prowess. De la Salle opened the scoring with a lovely point from
Cormac Power inside the first minute as Joe Stack and Liam O Shea raised a white flag each for Midleton CBS. Alan Kirwin drew the game on five minutes but Gos- nell and O’ Shea both pointed for Midleton to restore
the balance
again. Power pointed a free for De la Salle but Gosnell countered that with a fine point after

good teamwork out the field. Power hit a brace of points to level the game on the 21st
minute
but when Liam O Shea got inside the De la Salle backs for Midleton’s goal it was the beginning of the end for the Water- ford school. Stack add- ed a point for Midleton CBS but Power came back again with two fur- ther points to reduce the deficit. However Gosnell worked hard for the last point of the half to let three points (1-7 to 0-7), between the sides at the short whistle. Cormac Power again
reduced the margin on the resumption but Mid- leton, now playing with the strong wind, added a further
seven points
on the trot from Aaron Walsh-Barry, Gary Car- roll, Gosnell three points (two from frees), Ross O Regan and Daragh Moran to put the game firmly in favour of the East Cork lads. Cormac Power again tried his best for De la Salle and was rewarded with a pointed free on the three-quarter mark but again Midleton kept the pressure on and hit a further three unan- swered points to ensure victory in this Round One game. De la Salle tired as the second half wore on and Midleton’s piled
on the with further points,
pressure in-
cluding a 85 metre shot from Gosnell, to throw a warning shot that they mean business this year.
