Cork Hurling Champions East Cork Journal
Imokilly v Blackrock Here again it took a re-
play to decide the outcome after the sides drew with Imokilly hitting 1-24 to 2-21 for Sarsfields. In the replay Imokilly conceded 4-10, but managed to post a fine tally of 4-17 to book their county final place against Blackrock. It is a case of Blackrock,
keeping it tight at the back which will be their tactic, while Imokilly will hope to continue to their free scoring and if they can manage to hit the target then I feel they will have enough firepower to see them home. Blackrock will have
Gavin Connolly in goal fronted by John Cashman, Dylan Stokes
Norberg. Outside them Andrew
Murphy,
and Gary Eoin
Smith and Niall Cashman will need to be at their best for Blackrock to triumph. At midfield Stephen Mur- phy and David O’ Farrell team up. The half forward line is likely to contain Ger Regan, Alan O’Callaghan and Shane O’Keeffe. The full forward line provides the real threat with Tadgh Deasy, Michael O’Halloran and John Sullivan complet- ing the line-up. Subs David
Cashman, Ciaran Cormac, Brian Aherne and Fergus Ryan will be ready if called upon. Imokilly may have one
or two big calls to make, but as they say if it isn’t broken don’t fix it, so perhaps Im- okilly will start with the side that defeated Sarsfields in the replay. Declan Dal- ton will certainly start in goal, with Barra O’Tuama, Colm Barry and Kieran Histon the likely full back line, although were they to opt for the fit again Tim- my Geaney at centre-back, then Niall O’Leary could revert to corner back. I suspect they will stick with Ciaran O’Brien, Niall O’Leary and John Cronin, with Mark O’Keeffe and Ger Millerick the
likely
midfield pairing. In attack Imokilly have
several aces with William Leahy, Brian Lawton and Seamie Harnedy possibly in the half forward line, while Paudie O’Sullivan, Ian Cahill and Cian Flem- ing could be the inside trio. The subs bench contains plenty of talent with Liam O’Shea, Brian Mulcahy, Dan Mangan, Josh Beau- sang, Darragh Kelleher along with Timmy Geaney
all seeing action during the campaign while John Cash- man is another with strong claims for inclusion. On balance, I cannot
see the Blackrock defence keeping all
the Imokilly
attack quiet so I believe that come Sunday evening that Seamus Harnedy will be collecting the Sean OG Murphy cup for an Imok- illy side that has jumped every hurdle so far. Black-
rock are honour laden with 32 titles and with a huge tradition behind them but this year Imokilly look to be the form team and bar- ring a total disaster I think that the divisional side will be
the champions, with
Blackrock content to be go- ing into the Munster club championship. Imokilly have a very
experienced back-room team with Fergal Condon
as Manager. He is assisted by Derek Barrett, Jimmy Smiddy, Ciaran Cronin and Sean Harnedy as se- lectors, while no stone has been left unturned by the board, led by Chairman Richard Fitzgerald who is in his final year in office. What better way to finish than with a county title. Full coverage of the
match in next weeks edi- tion.
