ers had a great day at the Munster tennis cup finals in Limerick last weekend, well done to Kim Moran, Ava Kir- rane, Kyle Tagart & Lo- gan Tagart. They played excellent

tennis and were narrow- ly beaten by Ennis 3-2 in what was a fantastic fi- nals day at the Limerick venue Catholic Institute.

Waterford Raceway – 10th Round of the Championship

Sunday last (Oct. 15th) saw the running of

round 10 of the driver of the year champion- ship at Waterford Race- way, sponsored by John Mackey gearbox repairs. Even with the damp and greasy track conditions, there was a large turn- out of cars, all hoping for those extra cham- pionship points as the season is nearing its end and many classes still too close to call. The junior classes were

first to take to the track on the day and after 3 rounds of racing in the rookie class there was no separating Tadgh Foley and Brian Scannell in the battle for 3rd

day with Liam Kiersey taking 2nd

Healy taking the highest position on the podium. Cathal McGivern was top man in the standard junior class after some very close racing all day with Ben Furlong taking second and Aidan Heney

3rd . The modified junior

place on the and Darragh

class was very hard to call over the 3 rounds of rac- ing but in the end it was Jack Hickey who came out on top with an ever improving Mark O’ Con- nor 2nd

securing 3rd

and Cian Deasy .

The ladies class saw Katie Egan in 1st

tling for 3rd place

with Chantelle Wallace 2nd

and Jamie Egan set- but only 6

points behind Katie after the 3 rounds of racing. In the stocks Jamie Condon

went well on the greasy track to take the honours from Brian Weston (2nd and Joe Fitz (3rd

) ). Class

1 honours were Michael Baldwin’s – who is once again having a very consistent season in his ever reliable Micra, with Raymond Barry 2nd

and

Jamie Condon in his sec- ond car having to settle for 3rd

. Class 2 was down

a few cars on the day but Stephen Healy drove very well all day to take the top spot.

Tel: 021 463 8000 • Email: sport@eastcorkjournal.ie • Web: www.eastcorkjournal.ie Alan D’Arcy got the

better of Ronan Waters in class 3 on a day when Alan seemed to get better grip in the wet conditions. Peadar Wall was the lead man in class 4 to consol- idate his position in the overall standings for the season. The 2 Wexford lads (Andy O’Brien and Andy Foley) couldn’t be separated in Class 5 while in Class 6 Donal Linehan didn’t put a tyre wrong all day followed by Brian Whelan and Mar-

tin Fitz. The big race of the af-

ternoon was for the Dick Mackey cup run over 20 laps. Alan D’Arcy really had his class 3 car run- ning well all day and af- ter getting past the class 1 and 2 cars, which started on the grid in front of him, he held off the chal- lenge of the higher pow- ered cars behind him to take the honours. The club would like

to thank all the drivers and spectators, marshals

eastcorkjournal

and ambulance crew for their help and support during the day. Thank you also to Jeffrey Parish for making the overnight ferry trip, even with the pending hurricane, to take photos and promote the club on social media and finally to our sponsor for the day John Mack- ey gearbox repairs. The last round of the 2017 championship is Novem- ber 12th

and promises to

be yet another great days racing.
