East Ferry Twins Receive Distinctions in First Major Music Exam by ALAN SHEEHAN Two young students
from East Ferry received distinctions in their first major music exams. Caoimhe and Paris
Tierney, 11-year-old twins from East Ferry, each re- ceived a distinction in the Grade One exams for their respective instruments, pi- ano and guitar, during this past summer. The
both fifth class students at Scartleigh National
School, each passed with distinction their respective exam from the London College of Music, as ad- ministered by University of West London. Midle- ton’s Betty Moloney, one of the

ago and passed her two Step exams before tack- ling the Grade One exam, while her sister Paris decid- ed to tackle Grade One in acoustic guitar a year be- fore the exam date. Both young ladies were among the buskers present outside Bitesize in Midle- ton at this summer’s Mid- leton Arts Festival. Caoimhe, who has pre- viously played the grand
piano on stage at multiple events, now looks forward to playing as part of a per- formance night for all of Ms Moloney’s students at the Midleton Park Hotel in November. She is also preparing to perform at the upcoming Feis Maitiú in February. Paris, who spent her
birthday money on her first guitar when she turned seven, writes her own music in addition to performing. She was also
one of the five lucky young musicians chosen to par- ticipate in the songwriting workshop with well-known Cork singer-songwriter Nicole
Maguire at this
year’s Midleton Arts Fes- tival. The only advice Ms Maguire, who is also the music tutor at
the East
Cork Music Project, saw fit to offer Parish on her song Galloping Through the Field was a slight ad- justment to the rhyming scheme.
