to work with the ESB and Cork County Council to restore water supply to all customers in Co Cork in the wake of Storm Ophe- lia.
Cork and Waterford
were the counties most badly impacted by the out- ages due to the storm. At its peak there were 109,000 customers across the coun- try without water. This has now been reduced to less than 25,000, 14,000 of whom are in Cork. To meet the demands of
those plants without power Irish Water, working with Cork County Council, has been sourcing generators and putting them in place to get treatment

been given an ultimatum - either they accept a formal offer of another available house, or make themselves intentionally homeless. They are

I’m only out of hospital on Friday. They thought I had a stroke and I’m only 22.” The family of three are
on the Council’s housing list for the past two years. Last August
they had no
option but to present them- selves to homeless services, as conditions at Kellie’s
family home became too cramped. Cork County Council say
that they do not comment on individual cases. However, a spokesperson
for the Authority did say they have a statutory duty to assist people who are homeless. This may involve
providing temporary ac-
commodation until suitable housing is found through one of the various housing options, i.e. private
rent-
ed accommodation, HAP, Local Authority Standard Housing or housing provid- ed by the AHBs (voluntary housing bodies).
