sport@eastcorkjournal.ie Imokilly Motor Club Today Sunday saw Im-
okilly Motor club run our final event of the year, our autocross. The action kicked off at 11:00 in Car-
rigatogher. The event was the final round of the Naas Driving Academy, Train- ing Solutions National Au- tocross Championship. It
was also a counting round of the Munster Autocross Championship and our very own Imokilly club championship.
Despite the damp con-
ditions over 40 cars and specials turned up to take part in the event. The day was full of action packed
racing with the specials preceded by the saloon class. The buggies pro- vided some top class side- ways entertainment for the crowd who braved the weather to spectate. Ian O’Connell won the event in his Berrisford Su-
zuki with a time of 3:32.83. from Ian Byrne at +6s be- hind, and 3rd
was Aidan
white who was just half a second further adrift after a closely fought battle. Local interest came in
the form of the McEvoy brothers Evan and Aaron
Thursday, 19th who finished 1st
October 2017 and 2nd
in
class 3 respectively. COC for the day Tony O’Driscoll extended his thanks to all the marshals who helped throughout and before the event.
East Cork Darts Association The Battle of Cloyne
took place this week with Harty’s travelling across the road to The Tower Bar in the Hen- nessey’s Bar Premier Division. The Tower started well taking the first point in the dou- bles action before wins for Mick Healy and Ea- mon Brew gave the ex- perienced Harty’s the early advantage. Donie Kelleher extended the advantage for Harty’s before Keith Denne- hy and Mickey Walsh reduced the deficit for the Tower but couldn’t prevent a 5-4 defeat to Harty’s. Colberts Bar jumped
to the top of the table with a clinical victo- ry over McGrath’s. A strong performance from Dan Twomey against Ken Morrisson got Colberts up and running in the singles action where the high- light of the action was a
superb 160 finish from Eric O’Donoghue. Comeback of the
night came in Youghal where the hosts Hen- nessey’s A raced into a 4-0 lead with Chris O’Connell and To- mas Bourke winning well. Then the script changed with Kevin O’Riordan starting the charge for The Two Mile Inn with a strong performance against John Fitzgerald. The visitors reeled off the remaining 4 games to take the honours on the night with Ciaran Foley and Paul Leahy closing out a great night of darts. In the Long Point Division 1 Thursday night saw the Cor- ner House travel to Jd’s. James Howes and Mick Holmes got val- uable points for JD’s before Dave Hickman responded. The decid- er saw Brendan Reilly
close out the game for Jd’s. League leaders The
Long Point contin- ued the winning run with a 5-4 win against the Central Star. John Brady for the Long Point and Colin Hea- phy for the Central Star exchanged victories to ensure a tight start. The Long Point then took over with victories for Paul Sweeney and Martin Godfrey giving the hosts a 4-2 lead. Mike McGrath got the victory for the Long Point with Kieran Mc- Carthy getting the final game for Central Star. The action in the
Gaelic Bar division 2 began in Batt Murphy’s where Hickeys quickly raced into a 4-1 lead with Peadar Deady and Stevie Holland get- ting wins. Ken Horgan started the recovery against Ken Budds and then a Graham Denne-
hy victory set up a fi- nal leg shootout. Brian McCarthy for Batts got a good victory against Richard Landers to keep Batt Murphys at the top of the table. Wins for Donal Sin-
clair and Kieran Allen led Niall McCarthy’s to victory against Auntie Biddys who had wins from Pat Scanlon and the solid Peter O’Brien. Next up is the
Carling Cup of Darts on 20th
October. The
Doubles competition is attracting a lot of interest and will be an exciting night of darts for players and spec- tators. The action will be at three venues with the Division 2 doubles at Auntie Biddy’s. The Division 1 players will be heading to Colberts and finally the Premier Division players will be seeking the honours at Harty’s.
