The Seandun final
of Welding was held in CIT on Thursday Octo- ber 12th
with 12 Macra
members from across the region taking part on the night. Having finished second in last year’s Se- andun final, Whitechurch Macra member Vincent Murphy went one better this year and was award- ed first place by judge Finbarr O’ Keeffe of CIT. Meanwhile
the Se-
andun final of Public Speaking took place in the Stirrup Bar in White’s Cross on Friday October 13th
. In the team public
speaking category, Carri- galine Macra edged out stiff competition from Kinsale and Glanmire to win after speaking on the topic of ‘Setting Up A Small Business Alongside the Family Farm’. Car-
rigaline Macra member Aislinn Collins was also awarded best speaker on the night. The impromp- tu public speaking com- petition proved as usual to be an incredibly enter- taining spectacle with 12 individuals entering on the night and speaking on topics ranging from jelly babies and nuclear ener- gy to Facebook and celeb- rities. Kinsale Macra won the top two spots
with
Jonathan Quinn and Paul O’ Regan placing first and second respectively. Up-coming events
within the Seandun re- gion include hosting the Cork County Novice Debating final between Glanmire and Awbeg on Sunday October 22nd
, a
tour to view robotic milk- ing on the same day and a cinema night in Blackpool to see Goodnight Chris-

Speaking, Sparks And A Football Final In The Faithful County In another busy week
where four of the six core pillars of Macra engaged in by Glanmire Macra na Feirme.
Firstly Glanmire
Macra exercised the trav- el aspect of Macra, where members travelled to the beautiful Rome, where our National Farm Skills and Volleyball champions en- joyed a much deserved prize winner’s trip. Speaking of national
contests, Glanmire’s men and ladies partook in the 7 a-side
football All Ireland
final in Co. Offaly. The ladies team faced a very tough group with competi- tion from Clonakilty (Car- bery), Callan (Kilkenny) and Togher (Louth) and unfortunately after some hard fought matches the Gl- anmire ladies bowed out at the group stage. The men’s team fared better reaching the semi-final of the com- petition after topping their group after beating, Bogside (Westmeath),
Longwood
(Meath) and Callan (Kilk- enny). Unfortunately in the semi-final the men were
beaten 3-04 to 1-04 by Clo- nealy (Sligo). Well done to all involved. Also members Tomas
Cuffe, Kevin Smiddy and Cathal Cashman took part in the Seandun round of the welding competition in CIT. Contestants had to show their welding nuance to claim the Seandun title. Well done to Tomas Cuffe who came second on the night and for everyone who took part. Last Friday night, Glan-
mire members Sean Ahern, Michael Buckley and John Lonergan took to the stage in the Team Public Speak- ing Competition. They dis- cuss “Pairc Ui Choimh, the good, the bad and the ugly” – an overview of the history, development and opportu- nities of the iconic stadium. The men from Glanmire faced stiff competition from Kinsale and Carrigaline Macra with the latter taking the title on the night. For John Lonergan and Buckley,
Michael their
speaking exploits of the night weren’t finished, as
they were joined by fellow club members, Donal O Callaghan, Patrick Healy and Jennifer Barry in the Impromptu Speaking Com- petition. In total, 12 people took to the stage for two, 2 min off the cuff speeches on topics that ranged from weather to food to shoes to students and everything in between.
In a highly en-
tertaining evening, Kinsale Macra received the 1-2 with Jonathan Quinn winning the event and his colleague Paul O Regan taking the runners up spot. Great job to all contestants for getting involved on the night. Our weekly sports night
continues in the Upper Gl- anmire Hall. Sport night provides a great
informal
way to find what Glanmire Macra is all about. The cost is €4 and everyone is welcome to come.
