Carrigtwohill United AFC

Under-16 Date : 15th

October

Venue: Ballyadam Park Carrigtwohill: 3 Corinthian Boys A : 3 After a great win the

previous weekend in the National Cup, the squad faced a tough task with Corinthian Boys visiting Ballyadam on a damp drizzly Sunday morning. It rained just before the

match and just never let up making the pitch heavy and the going tough for both sets of players. Carrigtwohill started

this match well and dom- inated the opening ex- changes. James O’Shaug- nessy, operating on the right wing, was a constant source of threat and put in

several good crosses. Corinthians were

play-

ing a clever game on the break and the quick No.9 was very dangerous.

rigtwohill who would open the

However, it was Car- scoring with

another clever finish by Robert Adam. The keep- er came out to clear the ball despite the presence of two other defenders. However Rob managed to nick the ball from the three players and lob the ball over them into the net. This was to be a ding dong match and the lead did not last long when Corinthians were award- ed a penalty for an un- lucky handball in the area. The home team kept

pressing and went

ahead again just before half-time. A beautifully struck corner was won in the air by Darragh Crow- ley but was cleared off the line only for Alex Canty to pounce for his second goal in the last two match- es.

The second half was

a different story – and in some respects the tables were

turned as Corin-

thians, needing to score, pushed forward. The Carrigtwohill back four – Ebe Imoh, Sean de- Burca, Darragh Crowley and Daire Sullivan – were playing very well and de- spite

the pressure they

were facing managed to cough up very few clear cut chances. However, as it so of-

ten the case, if you keep pushing,

chances will

come and after a break through midfield Corin- thians played some clever passing football to work a chance in the penalty area and equalise

the score-

board. So, 2-2 and 15 minutes

to play – and the heavy pitch was now taking a heavy toll on the players – Carrigtwohill showed

the brighter start with an early effort from Meghan Bourque which went wide. Good work from Sao- irse Noonan sent Shine

Clare through but Pea- in the Con-

mount goalkeeper Naoi- sha McAloon was quick on hand to smother the ball and stop the chance. A good run from Katie McCarthy on the left set up Shine whose shot went wide. City took the lead on

the 15 minute mark as Clare Shine

intercepted

their determination. With Anesh Swani now on the right wing, he floated in a superb cross which found Darragh Hoare on the edge of the penalty box who steered the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. With the score 3-2 and

the finishing post now in sight, the lads needed to close out the match but every credit must go to Corinthians for not lying down. They continued to press and got their re- ward. A long distance shot which looked to be going well over the bar glanced in off the cross- bar to equalise the score for the third time. This was an entertain-

ing 3-3 draw which Car- rigtwohill can take great satisfaction from, however it was Corinthians who were the happier team at the end. The home side frustrated after a superb performance will look to build this performance over the coming weeks. Man of the Match:

level terms on the 40th minute mark, Amber Bar- rett pounced on a poor pass in the City half and she found Heather Payne who finished well from 18 yards to make it 2-2. Katie McCarthy had a decent effort to put City back in front but her shot went over the bar and the half

Whitegate for a local der- by against Corkbeg on a very wet Sunday morn- ing. After a good start they conceded a soft goal to go behind. There were chances at both ends but unfortunately for Car- rigtwohill they didn’t take theirs and Corkbeg went to score two more before half time to leave Car- rigtwohill 3 down at half time.

A big 2nd half perfor-

mance was asked from the boys and in fairness to them they gave their all. Having taken control of the game a great through ball from Jack O’Regan was brilliantly finished by fellow midfielder Cil- lian MC Carthy. As hard as the boys tried they just couldn’t get

Carrigaline B : 2 This was a superb per-

formance from the lads to come away with 3 points and a comfortable win against Carrigaline. Carrigtwohill’s work

rate was top notch all over the pitch and they never game their hosts any time on the ball from start to finish which was very frus- trating for Carrigaline. Carrigtwohill started with Ethan Daly Harkin their stand-in keeper and he didn’t disappoint with a fine game and a couple of decent saves too. The

Venue: Carrigaline Carrigtwohill United

Carrigtwohill were 2

goals up at half-time with goals from James Mulcahy and Zack Casagranda. The centre midfield pairing of Cormac and Rooney were

excellent,

with Cormac yet again putting in a near flawless performance to rightly be named man of the match. Carrigtwohill were 3 up soon after the break with James Mulcahy’s 2nd

goal.

Carrigaline pulled one back after some question- able

defending from a

corner but Carrigtwohill responded immediately as Mulcahy completed his hat trick after some neat play. Substitute Ben Malito

got Carrigtwohill’s fifth with possibly his first touch of the ball, show- ing a real strikers instinct when finishing. Carrigaline got a late but

rigtwohill had game wrapped up as worthy winners.
