October 2017 Ride with Nico Cycle Raises Over €2,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities Ireland

braved the weather

this year’s Ride with Nico charity cycle

by ALAN SHEEHAN Over 100 cyclists to take part in this past

inclement

Sunday, 15 October. The cycle was this year held in aid of Ronald Mc-

Donald House Charities Ireland and raised over €2,000 for the

charity

which provides accom- modation and support for who have seriously ill children in hospital such as

Crumlin Children’s

Hospital. “We were so lucky to

have it on Sunday and not Monday,” John Shan- ahan one of the organis- ers of the event, “and for the hurricane to not hit on Sunday instead. We had 102 cyclists brave the shocking weather and 102 of them got saturated wet. There were 15 children

who took part with the kids’ cycle with Nico too. Even though the weather was terrible, to raise mon- ey for Ronald McDonald House was fantastic. We raised over €2,000 for the charity.” Irish professional road racer Nicholas

bicycle ‘Nico’ Roche led both

the shorter kids’ cycle and the 80km sportive cycle for adults. The ride took the cyclists through Gl- anmire, Watergrasshill, Rathcormac, Ballincur- rig, Lisgoold, Midleton, Cobh and Passage West before returning to Little

Island. “We would like

to

thank all the sponsors of the event,” said Mr Shan- ahan. “It is a long list. We would like to especially thank Mary Birming- ham of AIB Bank Mid- leton, as they sponsored us last year as well, and

our two other main spon- sors Keary’s Hyundai in Midleton and Fitzgerald’s Bakery. We would also like to say thanks to Bal- lymore Cycling Club and Cycling Ireland, as well as to the Gardaí and to Blaz- ing Bikers, the motorcycle marshals on the day.”
