Blackrock will face Na Piarsigh from Limerick in the Munster club cham- pionship in three weeks’ time and they would cer- tainly like to go to Pairc Na nGael as Cork champions. Blackrock have improved steadily as the campaign evolved and the underage success enjoyed by the club is now beginning to bear fruit. I think that Sunday may
be a bridge too far for them as this current Imokilly side is improving with each outing and drawn games with Erin’s Own and Sars- fields have given them two additional games that has brought them on in leaps
and bounds. This Imok- illy side has several match winners in attack and if their defence can hold up their end, then on Sunday night I believe that Imok- illy will be crowned cham- pions.
Blackrock began their campaign with an extra time win over newly pro- moted Bandon, winning by 2-14 to 0-15. Next up for the “Rockies” was Bally- martle who were dispatched by 1-21 to 1-17, a victory that put them into round 4, where they received a bye into the quarter final and a date with Newcestown who were defeated by 1-13 to 1-11. People were now beginning to pay heed to the side as both Blackrock and Na Piarsigh were into the semi-final having both come in under the radar. In that semi-final Blackrock came from five points down
to win by 0-21 to 2-14 and book their place in this year’s final. In contrast to Blackrock
Imokilly have been shoot- ing massive scores, but they have also been conceding some high scores ae well. Imokilly began with a comfortable 2-26 to 0-12 hammering
of Bishops-
town. In round 2A Imok- illy faced UCC and the students were
by 1-26 to 3-10 to book a round 4 spot. Just
dispatched like
Blackrock they received a bye into the quarter final where Erin’s Own provid- ed the opposition. After a hectic game the sides fin- ished level at 2-19 for Im- okilly and 3-16 to Erin’s Own. The replay was no less exciting as Imokilly snatched victory on a 1-22 to 4-12 score-line, which set up a semi-final clash with Sarsfields.
