64 East Cork Castlelyons GAA

Wednesday night’s East Cork Board meeting.

Castlelyons play Aghada in Junior Football Championship this Friday 19.5.17 We are out in the Junior A

Football Championship this weekend and it’s a have a tough one against Aghada’s second outfit on this Friday 19.5.17. Aghada have been long the standard bearers of football in East Cork and field a strong senior team and top level U21 team. We should have a reason-

able side out but Niall and Jamie O’Leary will be sitting their Leaving Certificate, there is a major doubt about Brian Carroll injured against Fermoy in a hurling challenge and, of course, Colm Spill- ane who will be involved with the Cork hurlers in Semple on Sunday. Again, here we are now and if we played the game a few weeks ago we would surely have Colm available. We have done well in the League to date and could make the final as we are second in the table and the lads have worked hard. Best of luck to the lads and our management outfit Don- al O’Leary, James Moroney and Maurice Carroll who are in charge here and have worked hard in limited time. It should be a good hour of championship football. The venue is not decided to date and will be revealed at

Brian Carroll, Declan Varner, Tom Carroll, Colm O’Neill, Colm Barry, Robbie Feeney, Eoin Maye, Darragh Law- lor, Ciarán McGann, Anto Spillane, Aidan O’Sullivan, Alan Fenton, Michael Spill- ane. Subs: - Ronan Fenton, Michael John Dorgan, Alan O’Regan, Darren Tobin, Padraig Murphy and Brian O’Donovan. (all introduced during the game apart from Dunny who is injured)

pressure is on. It’s a race for points that do not just go on the board but are part of life as the number of points at- tained will certainly assist in their future career. Getting through the challenge of what is arguably the most difficult set of exams students will ever sit is tough going as there will be extra classes, grinds and study hours. teams this year sitting for the Leaving Cert and we wish them the very best in their studies.

Munster

Championship – Cork v Tipp on Sunday. The Munster Champion- ship is both real and part of folklore as the first one was held back in 1889 and the two counties have 92 titles and 52 All Ireland titles between them since. Will this be the last knockout style with the proposed round robin pos- sibly coming in 2018? Tel- evision, radio, pundits and the Sunday Game, etc, have really helped in the promo- tion of our games but the crowds are not exactly racing through the styles. Take 1950 as 50,000 people packed Kil- larney with gates broken in and supporters on the pitch for the throw in. The Tipp goalie Tony Reddin had stuff thrown at him and his jersey held by a supporter when he went to take a puck out. A few pitch invasions after Cork scores and some pleas from the great Jack Lynch to cool down helped but Tipp took that one. Now for a first round ver-

sus Tipperary in Thurles on Sunday. We badly need a Cork victory to bring back a bit of pride in the Rebels and to fill the Park later. Tipp are trying to win back to back All Irelands – easier said than done! Cork are reportedly in good form and isn’t it mighty to have a clubman involved as Colm Spillane is in the panel and odds on to make a place

in the full back line. Colm

Spillane has come up through the ranks Minor, U21, Inter- mediate, and now Senior as he had a very good League. Should he be selected he will have his hands full with John or Noel McGrath or Seamus Callinan who combine a le- thal full forward line for Tipp. But no better man than our own Spillane and we wish him and the team the very best on Sunday. Hopefully, Castlelyons supporters will be there by the bus load to cheer on Colm and the Rebels on Sunday.

The Primary Game in Thurles on Sunday. Colm Spillane will not be

the only Castlelyons player on the field in Semple Stadium on Sunday. Leah Hallihan, Castlelyons daughter of Orla and Stephen Hallihan will

be wearing the No.5 Jersey for Cork in the Cork versus Tipperary Camogie Primary Game at the break on Sun- day. Well done to Leah, her parents and the

Camogie

Club and we hope she has a great day.

Race Night. The Castlelyons Commu-

nity Centre Committee are holding an American Race Night in the Community Centre at 8.30 pm on Sunday 4th

June 2017. The Centre

has been the focal point of the Parish and, indeed, the surrounding areas. The Cen- tre hosted the “Cork Makes It Exhibition”, an outstand- ing event, for so many years. It is home to the Barrymore Players and so many Clubs in the Parish. Down the years, we have a host of mighty cel-

ebratory evenings and nights of winning clubs and teams as it was always back to the Centre

for some light the Centre. As re-

freshments. In fact, all parish committees and many from outside the parish hold their meetings at

befits all such Centres there is a requirement for funding on an ongoing and sustained ba- sis to ensure the upkeep of the place. Accordingly, the Com- munity Centre Committee would really appreciate your support for the Race night which can be done through sponsoring a Race, an Add on the Race Card or buying a horse. All in all, this should be a cracking evening so do support and come along and keep that focal point of the Parish alive. Club Main Sponsor: - ZEUS Purchasing Group
