Midleton CBS Secondary School to Hold Fundraising Concert for Aaron McMahon and Cian Twomey
by ALAN SHEEHAN
Continued from front page Tickets for the gig are
available at Midleton CBS Secondary School and Mc- Carthy’s Newsagents
on
Main Street, Midleton. On the same Thursday
night a second fundrais- er will be held for Aaron McMahon’s charity group, Aaron’s Hope, in Harty’s Cloyne. The Fun Bingo fundraiser will be held from 8-11pm with a bingo book costing €10. This Friday, 19 May
Shanagarry Youth Club are holding a sponsored walk for Aaron’s Hope and will depart the local GAA club at 6pm. Aaron, a 16-year-old stu-
dent and avid sports player and fan, was diagnosed with
chordoma, a rare type of cancer that is diagnosed in just one out of one million people per year. Chordoma tumours occur in the bones of the skull base and spine, critical structures which make them complicated to treat. Chordomas typical- ly occur in adults between ages 40 and 70 and occur in children and adolescents, such as Aaron, less than 5% of the time. Aaron
underwent sur-
gery in March of this year to remove 80% of the tu- mour in his brain, with the remaining 20% of the tumour requiring further specialist radiation therapy in Essen, Germany. More information on Aaron’s condition can be found at the Aaron’s Hope Facebook page, while the group’s Go-
FundMe can be found un- der the title Aaron’s Hope. Any ideas for further fund- raisers would be greatly ap- preciated. CianTwomey,
an
18-year-old from Ballina- curra, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called paraganglioma, with tu- mours found in his stomach and abdomen. Treatment for such paragangliomas is unavailable in Irelandm and so Cian will need to travel to Rotterdam for ra- diation therapy, while un- dergoing chemotherapy in the interim. More
information on
Cian’s condition can be found at
Cianscare.com or the Cians Care Facebook page. A GoFundMe page has been set up under the title Cians Care.

enough to keep residents in the small built up area awake at night. Senior Engineer Cork
Roads, David Clarke said the noise in Castlemartyr is a result of subsidence. He said hoped
to have the man- hole frames raised and covers rebal- anced over the summer period. Mr Clarke said the
issue
in Youghal was caused by two covers not fitting correctly following recent works. He
have them replace the de- fective covers. Cllr Linehan Foley
who welcomed news both issues will be ad- dressed said “Two are enough to be rattling in a built up area because the echo from two is enough to keep them awake at night.”
