for the
Lord Mayors Cup – Finals The Lord Mayors Cup hurling finals took place in
Pairc Ui Rinn on Fri May 12th
on Monday 15th
and our Football finals May in
Pairc Ui Rinn. Having run our play off games in both competitions earlier on this month in Ballincollig, Bish- opstown, Carrigaline and Mayfield the last 12 teams through to the finals faced off in six finals over the two days in Pairc Ui Rinn The
competition is a
joint project between Cork GAA, Rebel Og and Cork Post Primary Schools and is organised by the coach- ing
GPO Noel
staff, headed up by Crowley one
of the main organisers of this event who said “This was a great competition to help schools prepare senior teams for competitions in both Hurling and Football for the 2017/2018 season. We had a look at what was on offer for schools at this time of the year and felt it would be a good chance for the schools to take part, so we opened it to all schools
in the county and we were delighted with the response from all those who took part. It is very positive go- ing forward and many of the schools, players and mentors we after the that
spoke with games agreed this competition was
a great way of looking at players in the schools.” We would like to say a
big thank you to the staff at Pairc Ui Rinn for the two days, as always the pitch was in immaculate condi- tion, perfect for hurling and football. We would also like to express our thanks to the officials for all the finals, umpires, linesmen and ref- erees Alec Gibbons, Diar- muid Kirwin and Cormac Dineen To all schools who took
part and of course to all the players, parents and men- tors who helped out on the day, thank you. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Cork GAA, Re- bel Og and Cork Post Pri-
mary Schools alongside our Games Development staff headed up by Noel Crow- ley GPO and Kevin O’Cal- laghan, Games Manager for keeping this competi- tion alive and making sure that it ran off smoothly. To all the clubs who have pro- vided pitches Bishopstown, Ballincollig, Mayfield, Car- rigaline and of course the staff at Pairc Ui Rinn we say thank you. We would like to thank
Cork City Lord Mayor Des Cahill for presenting the Cup to the winners of the Football Finals Colaiste Choilm Ballincollig and Cllr. P.J. Hourican, who was deputising for the Lord Mayor on the day of the hurling finals for presenting our A final winners Midle- ton CBS with the cup, and of course Mr Noel Crowley one of the main orgainsers of the event who present- ed shields to
