Libra Partners with Vizion Solutions for IT Overhaul

By Jenn Kiminas M

anaging four world-class EMS facilities is a complex task. From its various loca-

tions Libra Industries must provide its customers with services that range from simple PCB production to complete system builds. In order to more effectively monitor and control all four facilities, the company part- nered with information technology (IT) service provider Vizion Solutions to develop game-changing, software- based measurement tools. Investing in two key IT initia-

tives, the company implemented pro- grams that have increased its level of service, manufacturing performance, execution, and profitability. After much research, the company chose to work with Vizion Solutions to create Shop Floor Control, a system that tracks all shop floor activity, and to implement Vizion360, a business in-

telligence tool that the company uses to identify customer opportunities and manage its customer service.

Gathering Process Information Shop Floor Control is a custom

program designed by Libra and Vizion Solutions that tracks all activ-

ity on the shop floor using barcode scanning and wireless workstations. The system tracks the status of each production job at every step as well

as the product serial number, includ- ing date and time completion infor- mation. With this information, the program then provides a complete and accurate project history. Shop Floor Control tracks the time needed to complete each step of the process, production defects and other rele- vant information. It communicates and tracks the schedule of each de- partment and work center, keeping an eye on all job progress. The pro- gram also handles capacity manage- ment, shipping and warranty track- ing.

The implementation of the pro-

gram has resulted in numerous ben- efits including improved floor pro- ductivity and efficiency, better cost management, improved scheduling, more on time delivery, better quality, warranty tracking, and the ability to find the root cause of issues by prod- uct, work center or individual em- ployee.

Turning Data into Decisions The company’s second major in-

vestment was the purchase and in- stallation of Vizion Solutions’ Vizion360 Impact Analytics. The software enables the company’s man- agement to act on the information gathered by Shop Floor Control. Libra uses the tool in the areas of manufacturing performance, inven- tory management, sales, and prof- itability management. Since its im- plementation, the software has al- lowed the company to get more value out of its ERP systems. The program is designed to give

business managers critical informa- tion and statistics in order to im- prove business decisions and to iden- tify opportunities. Vizion360 works in tandem with Shop Floor Control, compiling the data gathered from the shop floor to improve inventory man- agement. It has helped Libra greatly reduce its excess inventory and has also improved its supply chain. The program processes and re-

organizes transactional data into a format that makes Libra’s informa- tion easy to analyze. Using the com- pany’s key performance indicators (KPIs), which include profitability, efficiency, sales, bookings, fill rate, margin percentage, and others, the program analyzes the information to show where the organization can be improved. When Vizion Solutions imple-

mented the performance analytics strategy, it built its data transforma- tion architecture around Libra’s business. Data transformation con- sists of assembling data, applying fil-

ters and business rules to the data and presenting synthesized informa- tion for analysis. Data transforma- tion requires specialized software and a staff that can perform several different tasks with it, including building the overall architecture, data modeling, extraction, and report development.

Vizion360 Vizion360 Impact Analytics is

easy to run, and can be operated at multiple levels of sophistication, de- pending on individual users and the amount of detail needed. The soft- ware effectively extracts the data stored within business systems and transforms it into performance sta- tistics that can be used to measure and manage the business more effec- tively. Vizion360 comes with multi- ple preconfigured modules that are customizable according to the partic- ular business. These modules include customer-focus (sales, orders, serv- ice), supply chain, financial, and product profitability. Vizion360 al- lows information to interact easily and quickly across a wide variety of web-based scorecards, interactive dashboards, Excel pivot tables and custom automated reports available on both desktop and mobile plat- forms. The software provides numer-

ous benefits to Libra, especially in identifying customer opportunities, reducing costs in inventory and pro- duction, and managing customer service. It has also helped Libra to improve its customer service delivery performance, through its inventory management. The company has in- creased its productivity, labor cost management (scheduled vs. actual costs), quality measurements, per- formance schedule (on time and on budget) and cost vs. quote manage- ment.

According to the company, these

IT initiatives were so successful that they contributed to its recent growth and acquisitions. Streamlining pro- duction through more efficient moni- toring and careful control has en- abled the company to manage its four

locations much more effectively. Contact: Libra Industries, Inc.,
