Lawrence, MA — Global Connector Technology (GCT) has introduced a range of high-performance USB Type- C connectors. The new connectors have been designed for versatility, high transfer speed, power, and usability. Created for mobile and smart

devices, the USB Type-C connector is ready for next-generation applications delivering speeds up to 10 Gb/s for data transfer, audio and video signals, and supporting HDMi, DisplayPort, and VGA. The connector also supports USB power delivery standards with rapid charging up to 100W. Along with these capabilities come easier usabili- ty; a reversible plug design allows the cable to be plugged in upside-down, which makes a more user-friendly interface solution for the user. The company’s selection of five

products includes both horizontal and vertical USB Type-C receptacles. Horizontal receptacles are available in a hybrid through-hole and SMT configuration, allowing superior coplanarity and facility for inspection after processing. Top-mount and

BEI Kimco: Voice Coil Actuator for Motion Control

Vista, CA — BEI Kimco has devel- oped a linear voice coil actuator (VCA) that provides low hysteresis and low friction along with precise and consistent bidirectional position control. Initially designed to meet the exacting requirements of an anesthesia machine, the LAH15-19- 000A VCA will serve many other applications where low friction and high force accuracy are needed. The key to the new VCA’s low- friction design is a patent-pending

mid-mount versions are available in short and long body types. For horizontal parts, the compa-

ny’s drawn metal shell design pro- vides superior electromagnetic inter- ference (EMI) shielding as opposed to stamped sheet metal housings. The enhanced mechanical strength of the shell structure also makes GCT’s USB Type-C connectors suitable for the automotive, industrial, medical,

and instrumentation markets. Contact: Global Connector

symmetrical flex circuit that pre- vents friction caused by movement to ensure consistency. A solid brass ball cage with captured steel balls fur- ther reduces friction. These design features combined deliver an operat- ing performance with a hysteresis of 10 mN, compared with similar actu- ators that demonstrate a hysteresis of as much as 50 to 200 mN. The company’s low-friction design can be incorporated into both its standard and custom VCAs. Other attributes of the latest VCA include a peak force of 4.7N, a total stroke of 7.4 mm (0.29 in.) and a compact size of 38 mm (1.5 in.) in diameter and 48.3

(1.9 in.) in length. Contact: BEI Kimco, 1499
