For best results tube ends must be clean, square and de- burred inside and out. Lubricate the thread. Unscrew the flaring cone to its highest position. Open the lever handles. This enables you to rotate the two hexagonal clamping blocks to select the tubing size. The bolt near the handles (14) is an eccentric cam. Unlocking the locknut (15) and rotating the bolt will adjust the clamping pressure between the two clamping jaws.
The tool is supplied with a stepped strip of dies for forming male flares on all six sizes of tube. Along the edge of the strip, adjacent to each die is a row of stepped cut-outs These cut-outs are depth stops that allow you to set the correct height of tube protruding from the clamping jaws. To form a male flare, hold the strip on edge across the tool face, as shown in the picture below, above the jaws.
the relevant die into the tube end. Swing the flaring cone into position and tighten down into the back of the die, forming the male flare. To form a female flare you have two options. 1. Simply set the cleanly cut tube in the jaws as described above and form a female flare directly with the cone. Or 2. Leave the tube in the jaws after forming a male flare and follow on with the cone in the male flare to form a female flare. Experiment with different clamping and flaring pressures. Copper and Cupro/Nickel tubing can vary in hardness so try annealing the ends of the copper tube by heating them with a blowtorch and quenching in cold water. IMPORTANT NOTE: The smaller pins on the die strip are very fragile and are easily broken if subjected to bending force. There is less chance of breakage if the strip is sawn into six separate dies. Keep thread lubricated.
Insert the tube to be flared from below, into the unclamped jaws until it touches the bottom of the relevant cut out in the strip edge. Clamp the jaws together and insert the pin of
