Our partners, associates and assistants work closely together across borders and legal areas. From MAQS Law Firm, you can expect a tailored team, providing you with know-how, new thinking and a solution on almost any legal topic. When working with MAQS Law Firm, you should expect more than traditional or old practices: as a modern and dynamic law firm, we offer innovative approaches to even the most complex matters. We like to challenge the laws of convention, offering a different view and a new perspective on most legal issues. Still, we always put the client first.

Primary areas of business

Banking & finance: MAQS Law Firm has assisted banks primarily in connection with restructuring, suspension of payments and bankruptcy. Due to the financial crisis, this work has increased dramatically over the last two years. However, MAQS Law Firm has also assisted banks in core traditional banking disciplines, especially in real estate financing.

Dispute resolution: Boasting highly acclaimed litigation specialists within the fields of insurance, construction, public procurement, life sciences, patents, tax, employment, competition and white-collar crime, as well as trained mediators, MAQS has a very strong dispute resolution team, able to meet the needs of even the most demanding clients. The team has established an eminent track record before the Danish courts and continues to be called upon in International Chamber of Commerce arbitration and other international disputes.

EU & competition: MAQS’s expanding

competition law team supports the firm’s M&A activities, but also attracts a growing number of dominant firms and global players, as well as Nordic heavyweights, seeking expert advice on compliance and on litigation matters at both national and EU level.

Designing and implementing compliance

programmes, clearing and challenging mergers, fighting illegal parallel imports and marketing, assisting clients before the Danish and European competition authorities, appeal boards and courts, and advising on all aspects of public procurement are all in a day’s work. Even more important, however, is helping clients to avoid conflicts, and the team has build a solid reputation for mastering just that.

Employment: MAQS’s labour and employment law team continues to grow, and with the addition of yet another lawyer now numbers seven lawyers specialized in the area. The team is now among the largest and leading employment law groups in Denmark.

Intellectual property:Well-known brands continue to be the cornerstone of MAQS’s IP department. We represent and assist more than 40 of the world’s top 100 brands, primarily in the field of counterfeit and illegal parallel imports and Community trademark (CTM) prosecution and oppositions. In 2009 MAQS filed more CTMs than any Danish firm.

Mergers & acquisitions: This is a cornerstone of the Scandinavian practice. The team advises on all aspects of mergers and acquisitions, including public and private company acquisitions, disposals, reorganizations and private equity/venture capital-backed transactions. All our offices have full M&A capabilities, with close and smooth cooperation on cross-border transactions. Several of the more recent M&A transactions have involved distressed companies where MAQS’s insolvency team has been a valuable complement.
