C3 Fitness training methods for skill-related components of fi tness
Agility
Agility training is important in any sport where the athlete needs to change direction quickly
Speed Agility and Quickness (SAQ) training
This type of training combines sprinting and changes of direction.
This training often uses cones, ladders, poles, hoops and hurdles.
SAQ training drills are specifi c to each sport. Examples include:
• dodging around cones for rugby • side stepping over mini hurdles for football • sprinting, side-stepping and shuffl ing around poles in tennis • manoeuvring around cones in wheelchair basketball.
Intro
Which components of skill-related fi tness are important for your favourite sport?
Coordination
Coordination is being able to move and position two or more parts of the body at the same time.
Coordination training is sport-specifi c. This is because the demands of each sport are diff erent. For instance, the coordination to execute a tennis serve is very diff erent to the coordination in a long jump, or a somersault in parkour.
