RegStaer makes the most of Russian arrivals duty free opportunity
Since travel retailers were finally granted permission to open arrivals duty free stores in Russia at the start of the year, the RegStaer group of companies has grasped the opportunity with openings at Vnukovo and Platov International Airports. Andrew Pentol reports.

n January this year, TRBusiness first reported that travel retailers had received the green light to operate
arrivals duty free shops in Russia. This was based on an order from
the Russian government issued on 12 December 2018. The order came into effect on 12 January 2019 and followed the agreement in December 2016 of a new Customs Code for the Eurasian Economic Union to allow duty free arrivals shops. Dufry-controlled RegStaer, which
celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2018, wasted no time in making the most of this new opportunity. In January 2019, the company became the first Russian arrivals duty free operator with the opening of a 120sq m store at Vnukovo International Airport. A second followed a month later at Platov International Airport in Rostov-on- Don on 23 February. At Vnukovo Airport, the arrivals
store comprises all the regular duty free categories including perfumes, confectionery, tobacco, souvenirs, toys and accessories. The plan was also to introduce liquor once the required licence was obtained. The Platov store is constructed with the same design concept as the

main RegStaer duty free outlets in the international departures area. A traditional mix of duty free goods such as perfumes & cosmetics, wine & spirits, tobacco, souvenirs and toys are available in store.
