years of age, with most children outgrowing the allergy by 10 years of age. Reactions range from mild to severe, including anaphylaxis, which is rare for soy allergy.
Soybeans are also legumes. Those with a soy allergy may have increased risk of being allergic to peanuts and can be more likely to also exhibit allergic reactions or be sensitive to milk, tree nuts, egg, and sesame. In the United States, soy products and soybean oil are widely used in processed foods. This causes the greatest challenge for those who are allergic to soy. See Table 4.7 for a list of foods and products containing soy to avoid with a soy allergy.
The FDA has exempted highly refined soybean oil from being labeled as an allergen. Studies have shown that many individuals
