Welcome to Junior Cycle Home Economics and your new textbook, Zest for Life. Throughout the course you will learn how to be healthy, sustainable and make good choices. Home Economics is an excellent subject to prepare you for life and living and Zest for Life takes you on a journey of learning through many important life skills.
This textbook and the free accompanying Skills Book provide everything you need to meet the objectives of the new Junior Cycle Home Economics Specification and is written fully in line with the Junior Cycle Framework. This means that you will be fully prepared for your Classroom- Based Assessments and Final Examination when the time comes.
Structure of the book
The book contains all three strands: Strand 1: Food, Health and Culinary Skills Strand 2: Responsible Family Living Strand 3: Textiles and Craft
The content prepares you for the two aspects of the Final Examination: Practical Food Skills examination (50%) Written examination (50%)
It also contains detailed guides on how to approach the practical and written examinations, as well as the two Classroom-Based Assessments: CBA1: Creative Textiles CBA2: Food Literacy Skills Brief
