Wool fibres are covered in scales, which interlink and trap air, making wool a good insulator. Examples: Tweed, gabardine, jersey, velour, flannel
Production: The animal is sheared annually. The fleece is graded, washed and dried, then the fibres are teased apart with wire covered brushes (carding). Finally, the fibres are spun into a yarn, which is used to make fabric.
Uses in clothing: coats, shawls and scarves, trousers, skirts, dresses, jumpers and hats. Uses in household items: carpets, rugs, upholstry, cushions, blankets and throws.
