WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment)
Under this EU directive, producers must organise for the collection and treatment of waste electrical and electronic equipment. This includes anything with a plug or battery, and large and small appliances can be recycled for free.
Advantages of recycling • Lowers waste disposal costs and the amount of waste going to landfill • Creates jobs • Reduces litter and pollution problems • Reduces our use of raw materials, like trees and metals • Saves energy

The recycling symbol is used by manufacturers to indicate that goods and packaging are recyclable.
The green dot indicates that the suppliers of the packaging bearing the green dot have contributed financially to the cost of recycling. In Ireland the green dot symbol is only used by members of Repak.
