Regulation will only become an even bigger challenge for affiliates as operators and regulators introduce stricter rules around stakes, bonus offers and advertising. It’s important affiliates take part in the debate and share their knowledge and best practices.

P154 NEWSWIRE / INTERACTIVE / MARKET DATA

At BonusFinder.com our philosophy is to help people “play with more” at their favourite casino or sportsbook. We want to create a way for players of all levels to find the ideal bonus that suits their individual requirements and playing style, presenting them with all the options and bonus terms before they commit to a specific brand. Tis player-centric approach is core to everything we do.

BonusFinder.com has released data on searches for unlicensed offers and issued a warning to regulators urging them to tighten restrictions. Can you tell us more about the findings of this research?

Te research we conducted on the Swedish market found that almost a third of local players are searching Google for ‘unlicensed online casinos’ and related search terms, with growing numbers turning to black-market brands due to the market’s restrictive gaming regulations, most significantly, the one-time bonus offer limit per licensee. Tis reinforces the theory that aggressive restrictions on licensed operators drives players to search for, and convert to, unlicensed black-market brands.

We therefore issued a warning to the German regulators as they are going down a similar path with proposed restrictions that would significantly impact the attractiveness of the market. Prohibition and over-regulation simply do not work. Players want the freedom to play what they want without stringent restrictions on deposits, promotions, and rewards. Tey look for the best possible offers, whether sites are licensed or not, so lawmakers must ensure that any measures do not push them away from licensed and responsible operators.

What can affiliates add to the debate around regulation and compliance? What is the best approach?

A common sense approach to regulation is vital, as is an honest and open conversation between all stakeholders, including regulators, operators, and affiliates. Regulation will only become an even bigger challenge for affiliates as operators and regulators introduce stricter rules around stakes, bonus offers and advertising. It’s important affiliates take part in the debate and share their knowledge and best practices.

Have governments missed a trick not legislating iGaming in the absence of sports betting, notably in the United States?
