BGC Pledge £100m for Problem Gambling EMEA


UK - SIS greyhound service at full strengh SIS has announced that its greyhound service is now back to full strength. Following the successful return to racing in the UK over the last four weeks, Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) have announced that UK greyhound racing has moved to phase 4, removing the previously required gap of 20 minutes between racing, meaning SIS is be able to operate over 640 races a week.


Irish racing also makes a welcome return to the SIS Greyhound Service with racing from seven tracks bolstering the number of races back to the level pre- lockdown. The early morning meetings, which made history in 2019 when launched, will also return, meaning greyhound fans will be able to enjoy action from 8am until 10pm Tuesday to Saturday and 11am to 10pm on Mondays and Sundays.


Gordon Bissett, Greyhound Operations Manager at SIS, said: “It’s great to see greyhound racing back to the pre-lockdown levels. It has been a difficult time for the industry, but we have worked closely with our partner tracks to resume racing safely. Having Irish greyhound racing return to the service is also very exciting and will help provide our customers with competitive racing action 14 hours a day.”


Germany - Dusseldorf Masters FeedConstruct FeedConstruct has partnered with the Düsseldorf Masters for an exclusive data distribution deal from German table tennis matches. Under the strict maintenance of hygiene rules, Düsseldorf Masters has begun a series of table tennis tournaments with FeedConstruct collecting live data and video streaming on-site. UK - Genting shrinks and closes poker rooms Genting Casinos UK has reportedly taken the decision to discontinue poker at all of its 42 casinos in the UK. Genting Resorts World Casino in Birmingham is facing 98 job losses with the rest of the Genting casinos in the UK making 20 to 50 employees redundant at each venue.


Genting Casino is also reportedly going to keep three of its UK casinos closed permanently when COVID- 19 operating restrictions are lifted. The casinos in question are those in Torquay, Bristol and Margate. The operator has detailed its plans to its workforce as it looks to combat loss of revenues due to closures during the coronavirus lockdown. Genting UK President Paul Willcock said: “The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has created unprecedented challenges. It had an enormous financial impact on our business and caused considerable uncertainty in the foreseeable future. I am therefore forced to think about some very difficult options to ensure survival."

Te Betting and Gaming Council’s five largest members have confirmed that they will spend £100 million improving treatment services for problem gamblers. bet365, GVC, PaddyPower Betfair, Sky Betting and Gaming (which are both now part of Flutter Entertainment) and William Hill, announced that they will provide funds to GambleAware charity who will be the main commissioning agent for ensuring funds reach people who require counseling and treatment.


Te five operators have already pledged to increase the amount they spend on research, education and treatment (RET) services from 0.1 per cent to 0.25 per cent of their annual revenue in 2020, 0.5 per cent in 2021, 0.75 per cent in 2022 and one per cent in 2023.


Peter Jackson, CEO of Flutter Entertainment, said: “GambleAware has a long track record in commissioning treatment services and working with providers for the benefit of problem gamblers.Trough the provision of this unprecedented level of financial support, we aim to achieve a step-change in the treatment and counseling available to those experiencing gambling-related harm.


“As an industry, we are taking significant strides


to build in further protections for customers. From increasing safer gambling messages in response to Covid-19, to a £10 million nationwide education initiative targeting all 11- 19 years olds across the country, we are creating a safer environment for our customers while devoting resources to protecting the vulnerable and under-age.”


Te BGC has also confirmed that £2.5m will be made available to the YGAM/GamCare gambling education project in this financial year. In addition, the large betting and gaming operators will continue to provide 0.1 per cent of their annual revenue to GambleAware’s funding of RET, while BGC members will give an additional £3.8m of funding to the BetRegret 2020 advertising campaign to encourage safer gambling.


Welcoming the latest funding announcement, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said: “I’ve seen first hand how problem gambling can damage people’s mental health and affect the lives of those around them – and I’ve been determined to help protect vulnerable people from the impacts. So I’m delighted the Betting and Gaming Council is taking these steps to support treatment and provision for problem gamblers.”
