DIGITAL FUTURE ISLE OF MAN
“Every problem, no matter how big or small, we take on board and manage it through to resolution. By doing this you automatically make the jurisdiction more attractive to new businesses as the
processes are smoother, faster and more responsive. I don’t think it’s rocket science - it’s about changing the dynamic.”
changed their submissions to meet the requirements and re-presented. It is a real strength to say no quickly, so that the applicant can either look elsewhere or change their model to create a path of least resistance.”
ESTABLISHING A DIFFERENT RELATIONSHIP One of the most introspective
acknowledgements made by Mr. Wraxall is the acute awareness that many of Digital Isle of Man’s client relationships have become stale over the last decade. Where the business model on the island 10 years ago was solely based upon bringing new business to the Isle of Man, which at the time was exactly the right strategy, a decade later Mr. Wraxall admits it’s not the right course of action in the present climate. “While there’s still merit in the idea, as with any business development model it’s much harder to play the hunter role as opposed to organically growing your existing client base,” conceded Mr. Wraxall. “Tere’s more risk involved and frankly it annoys the established businesses here on the island as they see us giving all our attention to

new business. It’s a model that has simply run its course.”
Te feedback from the industry is that they’ve wanted a better relationship with the Isle of Man government for so long that they’ve almost given up on the idea. In order to address this, Digital Isle of Man needs to establish trust and a different dialogue with businesses so they can connect with government in a more meaningful manner. “We need to make sure that value is added for both parties,” stated Mr. Wraxall. “In the past, the government has asked too many questions without reporting back and as a siloed team, we’ve not had the skills to deliver the meaningful change that’s been demanded of us. I’m a strategy and execution person. Every problem, no matter how big or small, we take on board and manage it through to resolution. By doing this you automatically make the jurisdiction more attractive to new businesses as the processes are smoother, faster and more responsive. I don’t think it’s rocket science - it’s about changing the dynamic.”
In 2020, Digital Isle of Man wants to be more ambitious and expand its remit beyond eGaming whilst being more responsive and reactive to the needs of the eGaming companies on the island. Mr. Wraxall and his team are aware of the difficulties facing eGaming and the need to be cautious in its approach to ensure that it delivers upon its promises. “If you have the passion and energy of the sector behind you - then you can achieve more,” explained Mr. Wraxall. “Last year we sat down with the eGaming sector and outlined our deliverables for 2019. I don’t think any of those participating believed we would deliver what we proposed - but we have - and next year we are going to be more ambitious.”
LANDING ON THE ISLE OF MAN Te physical manifestation of the changes taking
place on the island is the new Isle of Man blockchain Hubb located in Douglas. Blockchain Isle of Man sits within Digital Isle of Man and as a proposition doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world. It serves as a soft-landing point for blockchain enabled companies who want to
