Amelco: record breaking potential

Brandon Walker, Head of Amelco USA

Te curtain closed on the latest NFL season in a way that is so familiar to fans of the sport – with Tom Brady lifting the Lombardi Trophy high into the night sky. It marked the end of a wild, unpredictable and historically successful season – and not just on the pitch.

Te 2021/21 NFL campaign has also smashed all records across the states for sportsbook, as punters from New Jersey to Nevada set a constantly increasing benchmark at an almost monthly scale for increased handles and betting revenue.

Super Bowl LV was billed as the largest single- game legal betting event in American sports history. Following a record-breaking weekend, Brandon Walker, Head of Amelco USA, explains how the 2021/21 NFL campaign has set the stage for another whirlwind year stateside.

Tis of course was no different for the Super Bowl 55, which was a game that saw two of the league’s biggest all-star quarterbacks pitched against each other, as well as sterling wide- receiver crops. However, while Tom Brady held up his end of the bargain, Patrick Mahomes suffered the almost unthinkable.

A quarterback who accounted for 40 touchdowns in the season was held scoreless, shattering the hopes of bettors everywhere betting the over, as well as handing the Buccaneers a significant win on the handicap. Te underdogs won - and did so in style.

In a nation where statistics account for so much in sport, we’ve seen prop bets become a vital element of the betting experience for fans in the US, and when it came to this year’s showdown, the stat book went out the window.

Neither QB threw for 300+ yards, with Brady barely passing 200, while Travis Kelce gained 133 yards through the air, along with the lack of Chiefs touchdowns - which no doubt ruined plenty of parlays. It was, to all extents, a game which showcased why the NFL is king when it comes to betting in the US.
