ESPORTS BETTING LUCKBOX
A little over 18 months after accepting its first real-money esports bet, Luckbox is now a publicly listed company on the Canadian TSX Venture Exchange. However, its foundations were built in Douglas, Isle of Man, a base from which the young company has been able to flourish, as CEO Quentin Martin explains…
Luckbox: thinking inside of the box
Tings happen quickly at Luckbox but that probably shouldn’t be too surprising, given the nature of the space in which we operate. Esports is a fast growing, rapidly evolving industry and, to have any chance of success here, you need to be able to keep up.
WHY ISLE OF MAN?
Quentin Martin, CEO, Luckbox
In less than two years, Luckbox has gone from launch to public listing, with countless milestones along the way - new markets, new games, new payment methods, new bonus types, new hires, you name it.
One of the main reasons we’ve been able to move so fast and work so dynamically is thanks to our solid foundations in the Isle of Man. Our parent company, Real Luck Group, is registered in Calgary, Canada, but Luckbox’s heart remains in the small island in the Irish Sea. We have an office in Douglas, we hold an Isle of Man OGRA Licence and, for what it’s worth, the island is also my home.

I, along with both the founders of Luckbox - Mike Stevens and Lars Lien - are former PokerStars employees and the Stars approach of doing things properly, putting customers first and acting with integrity has been a great influence to our ethos with Luckbox. Stars was based in Isle of Man and held the OGRA licence, which also informed our decisions.
Te Isle of Man’s Gambling Supervision Commission licence is one of the most respected in the whole industry and offers players the highest level of protection. For example, the licence requires operators to keep player funds fully separate from business funds. It allows us to serve customers in scores of countries across the globe and allows us to work with premium payment processors, banks and other third parties.
Te island has a world-class infrastructure for business from a technological point of view but also from a regulatory perspective. Te government’s willingness to move with the times has seen the Island become an increasingly popular destination for state-of- the-art businesses operating in fields such as
igaming, esports, blockchain and other areas of fintech. Put simply, it just makes sense for us to be here.
NO MAN IS AN ISLAND
While our roots are in Douglas, Luckbox is and always has been an international effort, built by a team across the world.
Plovdiv, Bulgaria is home to most of our hugely
