ESPORTS BETTING LUCKBOX
Our share price is more than double that at which we listed and, on March 9, we closed a private placement deal that raised $17.8m CAD. The funding puts us in a superb
position to deliver on our goals, building our team, enhancing our product, forging new
partnerships and acquiring more players.
FROM HERE, ANYWHERE
We were fortunate that the Covid-19 pandemic had little effect on our day-to-day operations but even more lucky that we work in an industry that proved largely resilient during lockdown. Indeed, esports was one of the few sectors to show growth during the spring and summer of 2020, when most other forms of live entertainment were put on hold.
For Luckbox, it was a period of intense activity, as players familiar with betting on sports, tried esports betting for the first time. It saw our revenues spike significantly and, more generally, brought even more awareness to the esports industry. A meme doing the rounds at the time went something like: “2019: Esports is not a sport. 2020: Esports is the only sport.”
Esports caught the attention of a more mainstream audience and, significantly for Luckbox, investor interest was piqued. With the opportunity to capitalise on this momentum, our plans for a public listing were accelerated.
A strong existing shareholder base in Canada, imminent potential changes to gambling regulation and a flourishing esports scene there were key considerations in our decision to opt for the TSX Venture Exchange and we began trading in December last year under the ticker TSXV: LUCK.
talented development team, those who have built our proprietary platform, designed from the ground up to cater specifically to the esports audience. We also have colleagues in Sofia, Tel Aviv, Istanbul, Dublin, Toronto and Sydney, working marketing, finance, product design and communications.
For our team, remote working from different locations and time zones, is second nature, using the tools and technologies that have
become so familiar to so many during the global pandemic.
But that is not to say we are not looking forward to getting back into the office.
I know many of our colleagues are excited about the prospect of working together from the same physical space again and, as we continue to grow the team, I’m particularly looking forward to more of them joining us in Douglas.
We’ve enjoyed a great start to life as a public company, with investors responding to our story and believing in our vision. At the time of writing, our share price is more than double that at which we listed and, on March 9, we closed a private placement deal that raised $17.8m CAD. Te funding puts us in a superb position to deliver on our goals, building our team, enhancing our product, forging new partnerships and acquiring more players.
Te next chapter for Luckbox promises to be hugely exciting and will span across a global stage, and it’s a story that started in the Isle of Man.
