Symbols and Abbreviations used on Admiralty Charts (5011), published by the UK Hydrographic Office, can be used to identify features and symbols on the chart. On some charts the symbols are printed on the reverse, so a separate publication is not required.
The depth of water shown is ‘lowest astronomical tide’ – known as chart datum.

The black line along the coast represents the highest water level, i.e. the edge of the land. Depths which are underlined are drying heights, so they will dry out at low water. Be careful!
