To obtain an approximate depth at any time, add the Height of Tide (HOT) to the depth indicated on the chart at that point. As mentioned earlier, this could be a drying height on the chart and adding the HOT to this still may not give enough water to sail.
So, for example, two hours after high water, the depth at any charted point can be estimated by taking the HOT at high water and subtracting the amount of water which has flowed away. This will be 25 per cent or 3/12 of the range.
So on 17 August where HW of 2.1m is indicated on the chart, depth at HW-2 hours of ebb tide = 2.1 - (0.18 (1st hour 1/12) + 0.36 (2nd hour 2/12)) = 1.56m using the Rule of Twelfths.
