YEAR 8 8.1

Being a year 8 tutor is a fantastic experience. Each day I have the opportunity to work alongside a group of extremely bright, funny and hard working students. 8.1 have had a fantastic year and have achieved so much. Here’s to another brilliant year ahead.

Miss Cummings What it’s like to be a year 8 Matravers student.....

“There are a lot of opportunities for students to get involved in and guidance about potential future careers.” Callum Ball

“There are a lot of opportunities to go on fun trips throughout the year.” Connor Shelbourne

“The music department is always open which gives you the chance to practise and perform.” - Amy Wheeler

“Every day we have the chance to learn lots of new things.” Layla Boydell

8.2

This has been a great year for me as a tutor, seeing 8.2 grow and develop as wonderful young people with great personalities, maturing into responsible learners and bonding even more as a team. The determination to succeed has helped them become even more focussed and motivated and it continues to be a pleasure leading them forward and seeing them strive to be the best they can be. Long may it continue!

Mr Bunce “To be a student at Matravers School in Year 8 is a

great opportunity for us because rather than looking up to people all the time, we get to be looked up to for a change. This makes me feel happy because of having that responsibility and knowing that if we are good role models, someday Year 7 will be great like us!” Shayla Burden

“Year 8 has been a really fun year for me at Matravers

because I have had the opportunity to join Cadets and go on a camp in Wales. It has also been fun because we have had Mr Anderson as our progress leader leading us along. Although he can be strict, he is always just helping us!” Caitlyn McGuire

“Being a Year 8 student at Matravers is great for the following reasons:

• Knowing more teachers and learning more exciting things

• Exciting, better trips

• Having an amazing progress leader like Mr Anderson

• Not being the youngest anymore, and knowing my way around the school with confidence

• Better opportunities for helping out others.” Lucy Parker

8.3 Year 8 has had many ‘ups and downs’ for 8.3. I am

proud to say they have faced each challenge, set-back and triumph with good grace and a strong team-ethic. I know they are all desperate for the holidays to start. They have worked extremely hard and should be very proud of themselves. Next stop: Year 9.

Mr N Price

“I think being a Year 8 student is fun because we get the chance to do many more exciting things. I particularly enjoyed studying Stonehenge in History.” Jayden Gough

“The teachers have been really helpful. When you

need a different approach to a question or task they think of new ways to do things. Also, if you have personal issues, they are always there to support you.” Elsbeth Paton

“Being in Year 8 has been good for lots of reasons. One of those was all the after-school sports clubs I got involved in. I was very proud to represent the school in matches and tournaments. The Spain trip was the highlight of the year for me. I got to work on my netball skills and had lots of fun with my friends.” Courtneigh Meadows
