Year 7 (continued)

scared, because when I arrived I saw nobody I knew. Now that I’m in Year 7 I have great friends and the lessons are fun and the teachers are really nice. I’m loving school, especially assemblies.” Jacob Broomfield

“Hi, my name is Alyssa. I am in year 7 and I am going to share my first experience in this school. At the start of the year I was mainly worried about getting lost because it’s a new school and I wasn’t used to being the youngest here.

I feel I If developed as a pupil by becoming more confident and I’ve come to know everyone in my

classes really well. I feel more confident speaking with my teachers and I can ask for help when needed. Matravers has helped me overcome the fears I had at the start of the year. For example, we have maps in our planners if we needed directions.

My friend Amber, who has helped me write this, attends an amazing kickstart dance afterschool club that is lead by Miss Richards who is an outstanding choreographer. It is a place where we together choreograph dynamic dances and perform them at shows.

Kickstart is not the only club at this school however. We have a variety of clubs ranging from sports to creativity and performing arts. There is surely something for you.”

“Hello my name is Grace Bishop and I am in year 7 at Matravers secondary school. I am going to tell you what my experience has been like so far at Matravers. I know it can be scary to be moving up into secondary but I promise you its fine.

When I was first coming here I had many worries which other people had as well. My number 1 worry was getting lost. However, we were given maps in our school planners so we could find easily where we were going. Also, if you did get lost there were plenty of other students and teachers to help you. As you were new the teachers were ok with you being a little bit late as you are still adjusting to the new school.

Another worry I had was drowning in too much homework. But it is completely manageable. They do not give you too much to complete. In primary or juniors school they may have told you that you get loads of homework but that is an overreaction.

You may find yourself struggling to adjust to the new

environment with a bigger school more people and new subjects to learn but I promise it gets better.

I have made many new friends and I know all the pupils in my classes. I am never afraid to ask for help as I

know that the teachers will assist me. In this new school I have grown a lot. Firstly, I am getting high scores in my classes and I have learned many new maths skills I did not know beforehand.

There are many clubs you can do, whether they are in school or after school, and I have attended many. At the moment I go to, Athletics jump club, drama club and manga art club. I have also helped out at the open evening in the science block and helped out at the year 7 run fair for the year 6s coming up in September.

Overall I have had a great first year in Matravers

secondary school and I hope if you join you will to.” Grace Bishop

“When I first arrived I was terrified. I had never ever been to a school quite this big! The new responsibilities that were placed on my shoulders were strange and felt odd. Yet, I had a strong feeling in my heart this is where I belonged. Those first days were like a baby taking their first steps, we stumbled and fell but we

were helped back up again by our new teachers and tutors.

Nowadays, the responsibilities feel like they have been there for an eternity. We know the school, our school and we know the teachers, our teachers and we are getting ready to head into a brand new year. We’ve had our trials but we are ready for it. We’ve made friends and become part of the Matravers School family.

Lately, there have been a lot of different clubs open to all years. For example, some may be orchestra, trampolining, athletics and so many more. The Matravers school family encouraged us to be more involved in our social activities and build more friendships and self-confidence.” Emily Clements and Lily Sargent

“Joining Matravers was an exhilarating thought which soon became a reality. The differences from primary to secondary school were huge but it was somehow easy to slot into them. A vast range of opportunities was offered and continued to open up over the year.

I attended “STEM” club which provided me with the opportunity of completing my Bronze Crest Award. I joined “Musicality” which indulged me the creative arts segment of the school. Later in the year our dance

group then performed at Dance in Action. Our dance was based on the new release of Mary Poppins.

The lessons constantly kept me engaged and I was forever learning something new. I particularly enjoyed
