RESILIENT GEOGRAPHY

On the 3rd of July, we visited Swanage Bay as a trip for our GCSE Geography fieldwork. We were lucky enough to have blue skies and were able to work on our tans as well as our geography! Our hypothesis was “Does longshore drift occur on Swanage Beach?” To investigate this we used meter sticks to measure the build-up of sediment on either side of the groynes, this was useful for looking at longshore drift and determining the direction it was happening in. We also walked to Old Harry Rocks which is one of our physical case-studies. There was clear example of a cave, arch, stack and stump, it was great to see the processes that had formed these as it really improved our understanding from lessons. We will be writing up and analysing our data from the trip to prepare us for the skills section of the exam.

Katie Williams (Year 10) MESS DINNER DECEMBER 2018

These last two terms, have been incredibly exciting for cadets, with high efforts from numerous cadets, helping to define and achieve our Contingent motto ‘To Be the Best.’ Of course this could not be achieved without the appreciated support of parents, carers and members of staff, who help the cadets to aspire to the high standards we expect from our Contingent.

MESS DINNER DECEMBER 2018

We finished 2018 with our annual mess dinner, which we use to acknowledge the hard work that the cadets put in over the year, and to celebrate the continued development of the Contingent. This year we had many guests of honour, including Dr Riding, Sqn Ld Les Tanner and Mr Brian Ralph. The cadets would then arrive by coach, accompanied by Lt Hervey, 2Lt Jessop and 2Lt Paginton.

We were then greeted by Captain Fairnington, in the role of President of the Mess. The position of Vice president of the mess was shared by myself and Sergeant Cannings. Once everybody had a drink, Sergeant Cannings would invite the Cadets to sit down using the mess Gavel. All Cadets waited until Sergeant Bradbeer said the Army Air Corp grace, and then followed Dr Riding to be seated. All cadets had been reminded of the mess etiquette at cadets the week
