FOREWORD Dear Parents
It is a privilege and an honour to be able to present to you our Summer Edition of our Newsletter. As we say good- bye to another fabulous academic year of success it is hard to work out where the time has gone! It only seems like yesterday that we were starting on our journey and we have really managed to pack so much into such a
short space of time. We never take this for granted; it is only hard work every day that makes this happen.
I am writing this after experiencing our 6th annual M:Fest celebration. In true Glastonbury style, the show must go on. Despite the heavens opening up and falling on us throughout the day we managed to pull together and salvage something on the only day of rain in term 6! Our front cover captures the essence of the day brilliantly! The Matravers family operating at its best!
Traditional ethos, modern outlook
As you read through this Newsletter it is hard believe that we continue to deliver all that we do as a non-fee paying school. The breadth and depth of opportunity is second- to-none across the school. We strive to provide the types of experiences that stretch and challenge our young people, fostering a passion of and love for learning. We don’t have to do this; we do this because we want to. We do this because this is wrapped up in our school vision of providing the best possible opportunities for our students that enable them to thrive.
World-class building programmes
I am delighted to update you on the substantial and transformatory building programme that we have. Our Priority School Programme building is planned to hand- over to the school for use at October half-term. As previously mentioned, moving from one entire block to another is a substantial project in itself. Therefore, the school will operate 4 partial closure days during the next academic year. These will be on 22nd and 23rd October, just before half-term and also on 4th and 5th November, just after half-term. We will provide details next term of which year groups will be in school and when during these days.
Once we have moved into our new block, the construction team will move to the next phase which is the demolition of the existing Maths, Science and technology block, which will be completed by the end of next academic year.

You will also notice when you return in September that our £1,000,000 investment in the main teaching block is finally underway. The new windows will be installed in the Library over the summer, alongside the installation of a new reception entrance. The remainder of the project will be completed next summer.
Over the past 6 years we have successfully attracted to the school around £10,000,000 of investment. This in itself is a phenomenal achievement. However, we will continue to build on this stunning work as we begin to cast our eyes on other areas of our Site Master Plan to bring to realisation.
An exercise in character education
As the school year comes to a close we have deeply enjoyed celebrating the many successes that our students have had over the year. Our Sports Personality and Performing Arts Celebration Evenings were able to showcase the very best talent available. We hosted our very own London College of Music and Musical Theatre Exams series which enabled our talented young people to shine with success. Our latest edition to our annual programme was our Future Leaders Awards Evening, in collaboration with Beechen Cliff School Bath, recognising the work that a superb group of Year 10 students have completed over the last year. All these experiences add to the rich diversity of life at Matravers, which is what makes it such a special place.
Changes to the Board
On a final note I would like to publicly thank Mr Guy Davies for his exceptional work as Chair of Governors at Matravers School over the last 6 years. When Mr Davies took over as Chair the school had been through a rocky, turbulent road. His calm, focused and determined leadership ensured that the school quickly got back on track. Governors are committed and dedicated volunteers, working tirelessly on behalf of the school. Their efforts and public service should be welcomed and supported by all as they undertake these roles on behalf of the community.
And finally
I do hope that you enjoy this Newsletter and take time to read about all the fantastic things that the Matravers family have been up to. I know you’ll agree that Matravers continues to be a very special place and we are quite unique in all that we offer for our students. If your child is not getting involved, ask them why not?
My best wishes for a wonderful summer and thank you for your continued support and help. I look forward with pride towards another fantastic academic year next year.
Dr Simon Riding Headteacher
