CREATIVE GCSE & A LEVEL EXAMS
The Dance Department want to wish a huge congratulations and well done for the weeks and weeks of hard work students of Dance have put into their GCSE and A Level theory exams. Students have spent hours in the studio rehearsing choreography and examined performance work. We are very proud of all of our GCSE and A Level dancers and wish them all the best in the future. Dance may not be their future chosen vocation but Dance has taught our students creativity, team work, management of time and organisation as well as physical strength and confidence to perform. We only hope they continue with the skills that Dance allows and we look forward to teaching those who move on into year 12 and 13. We hope the summers results gives you all that you deserve, good luck!
WESTBURY YOUTH DANCE AWARDS
The annual Westbury Youth Awards, which is held at Matravers School, is an evening Dance continue to be a part of. The evening aimed to celebrate the achievements of local youths and youth groups who participate in the community and inspire others. Year 12 dancers performed a beautiful medley of works by Richard Alston, British choreographer. Not only this, but year 12 were joined by Casey Binns-Dobson and Maisie Long performing Casey’s very highly graded year 11 choreography ‘Stuck’. We are incredibly proud of our performing students, they were a huge credit to the department.
PERFORMING ARTS AWARDS
This year the Dance department joins forces with the rest of the Performing Arts departments to celebrate some of the best moments from the last academic year. Dance really struggled this year to choose who our performers and nominees would be as we had so many amazing names to choose from. We are very excited to celebrate the dance talents of so many students at Matravers, and it will absolutely be one of the best nights in the school calendar. Dance will be presenting performances from our year 13 exam performance piece, KS3 KickStart Dance Company and classwork from year 12 and year 10 dancers. Congratulations to all those who have been chosen to perform and or nominated for an award, we think you are all winners.

OPENING CEREMONY, WILTSHIRE SCHOOL GAMES
It is our absolute pleasure to announce that KickStart Dance Company have been selected to perform their work ‘Say it Aretha’ to open the Wiltshire School Games this year at Marlborough College. The piece was created for the West Wilts Dance Festival at the Bath Forum, and was based on the theme of love. The dance uses a medley of Aretha Franklin’s most infamous songs and the idea came from Miss Richards memory of dancing around the kitchen with a hairbrush with her Dad at a young age. Our mini diva’s perform to ‘Respect’, ‘Say a Little Prayer’ and ‘Think’. We cannot think of a better group of dancers or choreography to open this county event. Wish us luck!
ARMED FORCES DAY 2019
Matravers was approached by Suzie Gutteridge, a local artist who was undertaking a project to create a collaborative piece of art to mark Armed Forces day 2019. A small number of KS3 students helped Mrs Jones to design a panel showing Leighton House (which houses the Army Officer Selection Board) and the Westbury White Horse. Our panel was then added to other contributions by local craft and arts groups and displayed in Salisbury on Armed Forces Day. The display will be touring local art centres and libraries throughout this year.
