YEAR 9

A fun packed and busy year once again for the year group!!

Arguably the most important year so far of our journey has culminated in our options process finishing and setting ourselves up for us starting our Key Stage 4 GCSE and Btec options. The first three years here at Matravers have flown by and now we enter the latter years of our time here and start to put all the hard work we have done building a foundation into practice in years 10 and 11. I’m sure as a year group we will continue to excel and shine as they have always done and I’m especially looking forward to witnessing the triumphs and listening to the superlatives they will no doubt acquire and receive.

BATH SPA VISIT

Once again we had a University visit us within school and this time it was Bath Spa University. The students were able to access discussions to current University students and ask them questions regarding what University life is really like and first hand experiences and expertise of University students and their individual courses. Matravers students took part in several activities including finding out different University courses as well as the different requirements needed to access the courses. Myth busting the “it’s too expensive” reasoning as to not go to University was explored allowing the full truth behind University expenditure and funding to be revealed. Speaking to the Bath Spa students also allowed our Year 9’s to understand that University can be accessed at any time throughout the career and at any age, with various individuals retraining, attending University whilst continuing work and speaking to individuals that have taken many different pathways, not just in education but in life, to reach University.

“On the 14th May we had individuals from Bath Spa University in to talk about life at University, what you can do and the opportunities and clubs Universities have to offer. We took part in match up tasks which allowed us to see what different aspects of University life was like, for example what a lecture is and what a dissertation is. This helped a large majority of us to make a decision of whether to go to university and if we would be suited to University life.” Kaelan Rankin Moore 9.3

REWARDS TRIPS

We have managed to arrange a trip to Dorset Adventure Park not far from Corfe Castle. The trip has been organised to celebrate the achievements of the year group in regards to their behaviour, attendance and achievements. A huge number have qualified for the trip and I’m sure it will be a great success. Activities of running obstacle courses on lakes, diving competitions, “blob” games and other water antics have all been planned out. Look out for updates in next year’s Newsletter as well as all the photos!!

THE TUTOR REPRESENTATIVES ARE:

Tutor representatives have been chosen for each tutor group within the year. Their responsibilities are far ranging including attending meetings to discuss rewards trips, feeding back to their own tutor groups and arguably more important relaying their tutor group’s feelings on matters that involve them in and around school life. Special mention goes to Lewis Smith and Lauren O’Connor due the fact they have been selected to be year representatives and not only listen to the other tutor group representatives, but represent the whole year group in whole school meetings and offer a student voice in many matters concerning school.
