FRENCH KS2 STRETCH AND CHALLENGE EVENT
We welcomed 20 year 5 pupils from our local feeder schools to a French enrichment workshop on the 9th July. The aim of the event was to give the pupils the opportunity to learn some key vocabulary and structures to enable them to order food and drink in a French café and to put this language into action in the second session and enjoy the French food they had requested!
The Learning Resources Centre became a French café and during session 1, the pupils used a card game to help them learn the key food and drink words and to practise the key phrases needed for ordering food from the waiter and for asking for the bill.
In session 2, one pupil from each table acted as the waiter and the pupils had to use the language from session one and order in French from the menu on their table. The pupils then enjoyed completing a table- top quiz about France whilst eating and French badges were awarded to the winning tables!
The year 5 pupils were amazing and they tried really hard to use French throughout the activity. They rose to the challenge of having to think on the spot and use the French they needed and realised that they could still be understand even with a few mistakes- it is making the effort that is important!
