Resilient (continued)

“It was a really nice experience to see young children enjoying what we do on a weekly basis and having fun with their family.”

Corporal Bradbeer BATH MOTOR SHOW 15TH – 16TH JUNE

Sgt Fairnington managed to secure us the opportunity to achieve some additional funding toward our Contingent standard. Over the course of the two days the cadets undertook activities such as directing cars into the car park, helping stalls with administration and also selling Raffle Tickets. We felt this was a suitable activity for the cadets to take part in for a donation and hoped they enjoyed the motor festival seeing the classic and supercars.

We are grateful for the cadets’ support and look forward to seeing them parade their standard in the near future.

WESTBURY YOUNG PEOPLE’S AWARDS WEDNESDAY 19TH JUNE

We entered our amazing cadets into the Westbury Youth Awards following Staff Sergeant Cannings success last year. Nominating cadets in Young Carer, Sporting team of year and Young achiever of the year. We had a very successful evening celebrating success in two out of three awards with the amazing Cadet Shannon McGinn winning the Young Carer’s award and our Ten Tors team recognised as the Sporting Team of the Year.

It is always a pleasure to be a part of well-planned and inspiring evening, learning about so many incredible stories from our community.

“The young People’s award evening as a whole was quite enjoyable as there was plenty of entertainment, it was easy to have a laugh and it was nice to see the variety of people who were nominated for different types of awards. When the Team and I won our

award it made me feel proud of us and what we have achieved. It was nice to see that we were noticed for our achievements and showed the pride we had created. We had been commended for something that was mentally and physically challenging to do. It was also nice to see friends win their awards and how

they’ve done so much to win this award all for different reasons.”

ADVENTURE TRAINING WEEKEND 28TH – 30TH JUNE

We returned to sunny South Wales once again for our Adventure Training weekend, as a Contingent the cadets really enjoy challenging themselves with rock climbing and hill walking. This weekend was no different with many activities available such as abseiling and rock climbing, night navigation, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition and trialling a new award in navigation.

Although the hot weather posed a challenge for our cadets, careful planning allowed the cadets to not be exercising during the hottest part of the day. This large challenge however did not faze the cadets and we had a very successful weekend in improving navigation and climbing skills.

BIENNIAL INSPECTION

Our preparation for this inspection was expansive, as we were really determined to demonstrate the range of success our contingent had achieved over the last two years. Welcoming Lt Col Andrew Cocker to school, we knew the cadets would raise themselves to meet the challenge. Catering for a whole day inspection, the colonel received presentations from a range of personnel including Captain Fairnington, S/Sgt Bradbeer, Exercise Tiger Venturer Matravers team and Cadets S McGinn, A Duce, C Butt.

This was followed by two demonstrations, involving a pairs fire and manouvere exercise with our paintball guns and a kick boxing demonstrations supported by Sgt Rymer from 1 Regt AAC. We would once again take this opportunity to thank 1 Regt for their support.

Lunch was then provided courtesy of the school canteen and all the cadets gathered in the LRC for refreshments and an informal meeting with the Colonel prior to an official inspection.
