and handed in to their maths teachers in the first week back.

Please encourage your child to complete this to the best of their ability to stand them in good stead for September.

LIBRARY

Mrs Spreadbury has set-up and run her own Carnegie Shadowing group this term. She handpicked a group of Year 10 boys, who met every Wednesday lunchtime to discuss the books they were reading. The group consisted of Marcus Ball, Toby Robinson, David Bell, Leyton Scott, Noah Coleman, Luke Morris, Luke Cannon, Cameron Shelbourne, Reuben Strout, Ryan Roberts and Matthew Clinch. All the boys really enjoyed reading a variety of stories and getting them to discuss the books.

The students also got the chance to celebrate their success with a breakfast.

As a group, they voted that Rebound was the best novel, a book about basketball, closely followed by Long Way Down. This was a pacey novel that centred on a boy’s whose brother who was murdered. Unusually it was written like a poem.

All the books were finalists in the Cilip Carnegie Book award and are available in the Young Adult section of the LRC.

The LRC has also hosted four Tea Reads this year and hosted another successful World Book Day.

Tea Reads have become very popular with parents and children and so we will be running these events again next year. It is a unique chance to come to our LRC and read with your child, while you relax with tea and cake. Look out for next year’s dates. They will be sent to you via letter or parent mail.

Finally, Year 7 and 8 have continued to be successful with Accelerated Reader this year. The tutor competition will run up until the end if term and the winners will enjoy a celebration breakfast.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate our word millionaires from this academic year. All the names are listed below, along with the number of words they have read. The successful students will also have a celebration breakfast.

Talking of brilliant young people, we have recently run the recruitment process for the new Senior Student.

They are: 1. Anna Midgley 3,263,878 (a triple word millionaire) 2. Emily Clements 2,507,249 3. Ruby Yates 2,460,444
