YEAR 10 A WORD FROM MISS CHESTERS
Year 10 once again continue to impress me. Over the course of the year I have seen a real shift towards focusing on studying and achieving their very best. In preparation for the recent exams we introduced the Revision Bunker (more on that later) and some students have been invited to additional Period 6 revision and catch up sessions. Many students have really engaged with this and enjoy having a dedicated space in which to revise and study with their friends. They have also been using registration sessions to develop their revision skills. Many of these end of year exams have been sat in the exam hall with the same formal exam expectations as will be in place next summer. I have been blown away by the maturity and positive attitude with which all students approached this experience. I’m sure the hard work will pay off and Year 10 will put themselves in the best position to approach Year 10. I continue to be impressed when I pop into lessons across the school. I’m regularly greeted by teachers and students who want to show me positive things happening in lessons. The examples of this are endless but I particularly enjoy seeing students work through challenging tasks and be successful. Often they surprise themselves with what they are capable of with a little hard work!
The Future Leaders Award has been introduced to Year 10 – working in small groups they have been working on proposals to develop an aspect of school and are working towards creating and giving presentations. Enjoy the photo of them developing their team work skills.
Outside of lessons, especially over this final term, Year 10 have really set themselves apart from others. In June we had 18 students from the Year group compete at area athletics, with another 12 helping out at the event.

Our winners were Matravers CCF Ten Tors Team – our first successful completion of the course for a few years and a really great example of students working together to overcome challenges. The Young Carer Award went to Shannon McGinn, a very resilient and mature young lady. And finally the Special Area Board Award which was awarded to Leyton Scott and his siblings. Further awards were celebrated at the Awards presentation evening which formed part of the CCF Biennial Inspection. 23 students from Year 10 played a leading role in the full day inspection partaking in parades and demonstrations as well as meeting the Colonel! Throughout the day I was stunned by the level of pride and super conduct of all of the CCF students (though of course the Year 10s are my favourites!) It
We have had a number of successful curriculum trips for year 10 this term – Geography field trips to Swanage where as well as spending time seeing their case study area and measuring groyns on the beach students also filled up on chips and ice cream. Leon Hobbs went for the classier option of a cream tea! The students’ behaviour and conduct was superb all day with members of the public mistaking them for private school children and complimenting them on their politeness and behaviour. Enjoy the photo of Lilia enjoying an ice cream whilst completing her paperwork.
I’m also thrilled to report that several students from the year group were recognised for their varied achievements at the Westbury Young People Awards.
