‘Thrive @Matravers’ is for you as parents/carers and will contain information, contacts and advice about key issues. Each newsletter will have three sections:

‘Keep Safe’ – with so many challenges out there that we need to help our young people navigate, there are some key issues which need our attention to ensure that we keep them safe.

It is important that we continue to

work in partnership with you in making this happen. This section will contain really useful information to help us do this, so please have a read.

‘What to do if…’ – there is a lot of advice and support out there which is available for young people and also you as parents. Each issue will focus on a different issue and information about the organisations out there who may be able to help.

‘Hot Topic’ – with exam season looming the Hot Topic for this term is “Exam Stress” and we will be looking at different themes in each newsletter.

If there is something you would like us to cover, please get in touch.

The information included on these pages of the newsletter can be found in the ‘Thrive @Matravers’ section on our website. There is also further information for you on these pages. If you have specific concerns which you would like to make school aware of, please get in touch with your child’s Tutor or Progress Leader.

Exam Stress

Mock exams are looming! Working hard for the mock exams is the best way to prepare students for the real thing! By treating these exams as the real thing you will discover how your child revises best and how to support them, so when it comes to May you hit the ground running! For those lower down the school use this information for your next exam week.

We spoke to some students about their experiences of what helps them during these important months: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Having a quiet space to work; People taking an interest;

Getting the right revision books and resources;

Being given incentives and rewards of attending revision sessions; Having the support to be independent.

Our tips for keeping on top of revision and helping limit exam stress: 1.

Little and often – don’t leave it all until the last minute;

2. 3.

Don’t just revise – make sure you have a revision timetable with down time to do the fun things too;

Know how you learn – working with others/working alone; working with music/silence; pictures and mind-maps/essays and words.
