YEAR 10 A WORD FROM MISS CHESTERS
Year 10 have had an incredibly busy and productive start to the school year. Students have returned from the summer break with a positive and mature attitude and have settled quickly into the options subjects they have chosen.
It has been a pleasure to squeeze lots of celebration into our weekly assemblies – often more than we have time for! Each week we congratulate the tutor group with the best attendance and with the most Core Value points, depending on their ranking each tutor group is allocated points to work towards earning Tutor Group of the Term. 10.2 were worthy winners for term 1, pulling ahead of other tutor groups early on and securing a convincing victory. The whole group were rewarded with pizza in the canteen. The competition continues for Term 2. Individual achievements for attendance, excellent behaviour, highest Core Value achievers and Tutees of the Month are detailed in the Year 10 celebrations page of this newsletter.
Other events this term included an archery competition to raise a little money for charity (plans are afoot with the Business and Enterprise group for a bigger event later this school year.) Year 10 have represented the school in numerous sporting events including the Badminton
Tournament at Longleat and the Year 10 boys football team who continue to develop in confidence and who have had some fabulous wins against other local schools. The start of Year 10 also saw the birth of the Year 10 debating team – trained by students from Bath University Debating Society – who have been honing their skills in readiness for competition and for training younger students in this discipline. Miss Drewitt has been very impressed by their team work and ability to think on

Much of the term has been dedicated to preparing for the Big Interview. Another opportunity for students to experience a formal interview with a variety of employers from the local community. CVs were prepared, interview
skills workshops attended and many students also had one to one mentoring to build confidence in this area. It was an absolute pleasure to witness many of these interviews and to hear our external visitors describe the students as “lovely,” “passionate,” “dedicated” and “ambitious” as well as many other positive terms. They were impressed with the high quality of the CVs and of how the students presented themselves for interview. The students, whilst being a little nervous in many cases, enjoyed the experience and really felt it helped them to prepare for future interviews.
Most recently it was my absolute pleasure to watch many students from the year group take part in the school musical We Will Rock You. Many students were directly involved with performing – singing, dancing and acting – all outstanding - but also behind the scenes helping to prepare sets, costumes, props and hair and make up. The amount of time and dedication it takes to put a show together is incredible and the hard work really paid off. They really were the champions!
By the time you read this we will have celebrated all of the positives in our Christmas Celebration assembly. I look forward to presenting lots and lots of rewards and certificates to individuals but most importantly to seeing which tutor group wins the Tutor Group Games competition!
I wish you all a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
All the best for 2019!
