Mathematics (continued) into the exams.
Year 11 start their mocks in January and to help them with revision for these every pupil has been given a list of topics that they need to work on following their assessments. In addition to this, they have all been given a CGP maths revision guide and workbook. We recommend using these together to tackle a bit of maths a day. In addition to this, you may want to look at
www.corbettmaths.com and complete their 5-a-day sheets.
Please remember that the mocks will be two papers and both will require a calculator. If you have yet to buy a scientific one, they can be bought through the school for a reduced price.
KS5
Year 12 have been busy discovering a side of mathematics they hadn’t even heard of before, while year 13 are hard at work preparing for their exams in the summer. Well done to everybody who sat an exam recently, we saw great determination and resilience across both years 12 and year 13.
Year 13 mocks begin in January – don’t forget to revise! There will be three papers (two pure mathematics and one applied mathematics) and you can use a calculator for all of them. The best source for additional revision material is your ActiveLearn account – stick to exam style questions (labelled ‘E’ in the books).
You can also find plenty of past papers for the old specification at
physicsandmathstutor.com. Use these to check that your mathematical knowledge is where you want it to be.
MATHS CLUB
Our 2 teams, “Chaos” and the “Butterfly Effect” have been investigating some sinister events this last term. We have been breaking coded clues, constructing impossible shapes and creating some beautiful Mobius strips. Come along to Maths club on a Tuesday after school to join in our fun! We can be found in Mrs Wallbridge’s classroom, MA32.

All pupils will receive a username and password for the PIXL maths app. KS3 will be able to access a timestable app which focuses on building confidence and speed with timestables, while KS4 will be able to access the maths app. This will allow them to practise areas of weakness and areas for revision. It has a daily challenge and we will eeven be setting homework on it. The apps can be used on a computer or downloaded from the app store onto tablets, Ipads, Iphones and Androids.
