CCF (continued) SUCCESSFUL RECRUITMENT ASSEMBLY

Our current year 8 cohort have made the most of the opportunity to join cadets’ onsite. Encouraging all students to think differently and try this opportunity with the option of not having to stay if it’s not for them. Receiving 30 interest forms in return from the assembly, not all recruits have found cadets to be for them which is fine but for those who have found it fun and engaging. We look forward to producing an exciting programme in the New Year and inviting the Colonel of our affiliated Regiment to present them their berets during their Passing out Parade.

CORPS OF DRUMS

The drums have arrived! Building on our progress and slowly introducing a Contingent Band we have started delivering drum instruction.

So far the cadets have covered the rudiments of drumming including the triplet, paradiddle and doubles. Now practicing ready for a drum solo and developing consistently, we are confident the cadets will be ready to support local community events and parades soon.

We are pleased to welcome Sgt Fairnington who comes with a wealth of experience of working with cadet bands and who has also undertaken training with the Royal Marines Band service.

PLATOON TRIPS

Facilitating our new intake to mix with our experienced cadets, we have redesigned the structure of the Contingent into 1 and 2 Platoon. This brings a variety of benefits as it allows for better integration into the Contingent but can also translate into our training structures.

FIRST PLATOON TRIP - GO KARTING

After welcoming the new recruits into First Platoon, we embarked on a team building activity to get to know the other cadets. First Platoon had the opportunity to go Go Karting on Thursday 18th October, where they had the chance to socialise with their other cadets as well as the opportunity to compete against 9 other individuals. All the cadets were successful in this activity, improving on their personal lap time and engaging in the competitive edge. The cadets competed in three different groups, with the following winners; Group 1 - George Howard, Group 2 – Lewis Applegate and Group 3 – Josh Symonds. Sgt Fairnington accompanied the cadets on their experience, our most competitive member of the team, offering a new challenge for the cadets. The cadets thoroughly enjoyed chasing the Sergeant around the track.

Second platoon have had a great start to the year with an influx of new recruits. Newly promoted Lance Corporals Best L, Bradbeer E, Pilkington T and Rudland L have started to find their feet within their role and have provided excellent support teaching recruits how to wear their uniform smartly to represent the Contingent. Sergeant Bradbeer has taken her new position as Platoon NCO in her stride, she encourages and supports the whole contingent and continually inspires them `To Be the Best`. I am extremely proud to be Second Platoon’s Commander and excited to see what they will strive to achieve for in our first year together as a Platoon.

On the 18th November, Second Platoon had their first reward trip of the year. Both Charlie and Delta sections were split into teams and worked together to complete a series of tasks set out for them by the Brokerswood team.

Crate Stack – Attached to high ropes the teams race to see how high they can stack crates whilst balancing on top of them. They used their communication skills to their advantage, pointing out where they could place the next one and where to stand so they were evenly balanced.

Competitive edge to one side, the cadets were encouraging and supporting each other. It was a pleasure to see cadets from all different age groups coming together as one integrated group. This was shown on the return coach journey, where a game of musical chairs saw the cadets choosing someone different to sit next to, without any prompt. All the cadets were an asset to themselves, their platoon and the Contingent. They were praised by all the staff at the centre for their manners and attitudes during the visit. I personally am delighted to be their platoon commander and extremely proud of each and every one of them. As a platoon we are looking forward to our next team building adventure in February.
